by Joey Kenward (Voice of the Giants)

The Vancouver Giants congratulate a number of their top up-and-coming prospects for recent on-ice achievements over the holidays.

Evander Kane (left) was named to the BC Major Midget Hockey League All-Star Game. Kane, a native of Vancouver, has played three games with the Giants this season. Currently playing with the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BCMMHL, Kane was the Giants 1st round pick in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft (19th overall). Joining Kane in the All-Star Game was Neil Manning (Nanaimo, B.C.). Manning, a defenceman with the North Island Silvertips, was the Giants 2nd round bantam pick last summer (40th overall). Both Kane and Manning scored a goal in the event held in Richmond, B.C. on New Year’s Day.

Kane and the rest of his Vancouver Canadians teammates were also successful during the holiday season by winning a gold medal at the Richmond Midget International Tournament. Other Giants prospects who play for the Canadians include Cam Reid (Tsawwassen, B.C.), Linden Saip (Ladner, B.C.), and Evan DaSilva (Delta, B.C.). Reid (7th Rd./145th overall) and Saip (8th Rd./166th overall) were 2006 bantam draft picks while DaSilva was placed on the Giants Player Protected List last summer.

Three Giants draft picks captured the Gold Medal at the Mac’s Midget International Championship in Calgary. Defencemen Nathan Deck (Sedley, SK) along with forwards James Henry (Winnipeg, MB) and Richard Hubscher (Victoria, BC) helped the Notre Dame Hounds win the top prize at the tournament. Deck was drafted in the 3rd round (49th overall) of the 2005 draft while Hubscher (7th Rd./141st overall) and Henry (9th Rd./187th overall) were both part of the Giants 2006 draft class.

The Giants organization congratulates all of their prospects on the recent achievements during the holiday season.

Fact that Joey didn't mention him is a give away to that. He is only sixteen but the Giants likely dropped him to add someone else this season (not someone drafted but listed). The team had thirteen bantam picks in the last draft and when one adds those to the twenty-five guys on the roster including Piluso and their extra pickup defenceman that amounts to thirty-eight guys right there.
