Seattle sends defenseman Colin Scherger to Raiders
Seattle, January 5, 2007 - Seattle Thunderbirds General Manager Russ Farwell tonight announced the team has acquired goalie Tyler Esau from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for defenseman Colin Scherger.

“This move will give us goalie depth for the future while giving Colin a chance to play more regularly,” said Farwell.

Esau started the season with the Raiders but was sent to the Quesnel Millionaires of the BCHL when overage goalie Jessie Deckert returned to the Raiders. Esau, a 17-year-old from Abbotsford, British Columbia, has appeared in 11 games with the Raiders this season. He had a 1-5-0-1 record with a 5.09 Goals Against Average and a .843 Save Percentage.

Esau, at 6’3 and 187 pounds, has appeared in seven games with the Millionaires this season. He has a 1-3- 0-0 record with a 4.87 Goals Against Average and a .862 Save Percentage. It is expected Esau will battle for a spot on the 2007-08 T-Birds team.

Scherger appeared in 15 games for the T-Birds this season. He registered a single assist with a plus/minus rating of zero and six penalty minutes.

The T-Birds play the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday, January 6, at KeyArena at 7:05 p.m. They then hit the road for six games against the Eastern Division, starting at the Saskatoon Blades on Tuesday, January 9, at 5:05 p.m.
