The Portland Winter Hawks traded 20-year-old Rob Klinkhammer to the Brandon Wheat Kings for 20-year-old Teegan Moore and a 2nd round pick in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft. The Hawks also exchanged 18-year-old forwards with the Kamloops Blazers, dealing Sasha Golin for Matt Schmermund.

Klinkhammer was Portland’s leading scorer with 23 goals, 19 assists for 42 points in 38 games. He goes to a Brandon team that is in first place in the Eastern Division with a record of (21-14-2-6). The Winter Hawks get the Wheat Kings’ team captain for the last two seasons. He had 22 goals and 43 points last season in Brandon. This year, he has 4 goals, 10 assists for 14 points and 22 penalty minutes with a +1 rating in 35 games.

“Klinks was having a breakout season with us and we are very happy with his contributions to the Portland Winter Hawks,” said GM Ken Hodge. “We had to look at the potential value of a second round draft choice to continue to build depth on our list at the younger age groups, and Teegan Moore was a captain and we are hoping he will help our young guys with the experience that he has had in our league.”

The Winter Hawks acquired Klinkhammer from Seattle on September 27 in exchange for a 4th round choice in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

Golin is in his third year with the Winter Hawks, posting (1-6-7) with 48 penalty minutes in 39 games. Schmermund, in his first year in the WHL with Kamloops, had (6-5-11) with a +5 rating and 20 penalty minutes in 34 games this season.

“We like Matt’s speed and his potential upside,” said Portland Coach Mike Williamson. “He will get a chance to prove himself here in our current situation with so many first-year players. We wish Sasha well. He is a great young man and gets as fresh start closer to home
