BLAZERS, CITY SET TRIAL PERIOD FOR BEER IN SEATS

KAMLOOPS, BC – On Tuesday, Kamloops City Council along with the Blazers’ Board of Directors, approved a trial period for in-seat beer sales during Blazer hockey games at Interior Savings Centre.

The trial period will start January 13th and run until the conclusion of the 2006-07 WHL Playoffs at which time a decision will be made on whether the implementation will remain permanent.

“This trial period is important for everyone involved. That way, we are able to evaluate the entire program and make a determination on what direction we take once this trial period ends,” says Blazer President Murray Owen. “We appreciate all the support our fans have given us and look forward to them having access to more entertainment choices while at Interior Savings Centre.”

“Beer and alcohol have been sold at Interior Savings Centre since it opened in the fall of 1992,” says Arena Manager Tony Carlucci. “This concept is nothing new for the city. Now, we are simply allowing our patrons to enjoy a beverage in their seats during Blazer games.” All beer sold in the seats will be in plastic cups with lids.

“We trust and know our fans are responsible and will make good decisions,” says Blazer General Manager Dean Clark.

In order that this trial period runs smoothly the City and the hockey club have hired a full-time security company, ICM, to supervise the arena. ICM will deal with any potential in-seat issues swiftly and with zero-tolerance. As is standard practice in all arenas, improper conduct and inappropriate language will not be tolerated. In addition, fans are asked to become a part of the process. An emergency contact phone number will be provided on the video screen so fans can report any issues as well.
