Scouting report

Tri-City is desperately trying to pull itself into a playoff position. The Americans (22-30-5-3, 52 points, tied for fourth in the U.S. Division) have been jockeying with Spokane for the division's fourth and final playoff spot the last month. Going into tonight's games, Tri-City was even on points with Spokane, though the Chiefs had a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Everett (28-23-7-2, 65 points, second in the U.S. Division) is trying to fend off Portland for second place in the division and thus secure home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Silvertips lead Portland by three points.

Tri-City dominated the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 11 in Everett. The Americans passed their way around the Silvertips, outshooting Everett 44-27 en route to a 2-1 victory. The season series is tied 3-3.

However, the Americans could be missing arguably their best player. Nineteen-year-old defenseman Shawn Belle (11 goals, 24 assists) has missed the past four games because of a knee injury. He's listed as day-to-day.

Offensively, Tri-City is led in points by 20-year-old center Dylan Stanley (47), goals by 20-year-old left wing Marcus Jonasen (19) and assists by 19-year-old defenseman Clayton Stoner (32).

Tri-City would be lost this season if not for the goaltending of Carey Price. The 17-year-old Price (20-27-5, 2.34 goals against average, .920 save percentage) has been the main factor in keeping the low-scoring Americans in games. He made 49 saves in a 3-1 home victory against Kelowna on Sunday.
