When I go to the Brandt Centre for a Pats game I look up at the rafters and see the retired jerseys. Last game (which I happened to win the free car wash...should I be proud of that? yeehoo) got me thinking what jersey should be the next to be retired. Personally, I think to person the Pats should honour is Bob Turner not only did he play with the Pats and go on to be part of the five Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens (1956 to 1960) the also was the coach of the last Pats team to win the Memorial Cup in 1973-74. I feel he achived more for the Pats than Bill Hicke (i'm not saying he didn't deserve the honour).

I'd be interested in reading what others think.

well heres my comments on Bill Hicke's #17 being retired.........

Now im not saying his jersey doesnt belong up in the rafters only thing is i dont agree when it was retired......Hicke's #17 was retired when he ran the team, he retired his own jersey, which in my eyes looks really bad on his behalf.....why not wait and see if another GM/president would retire your jersey for you, to honour your success as a Pats player/GM and if i remember correctly he also coached the Pats for a short time as well.

this is just my opinion on #17 in the rafters......

As for another jersey to be retired i couldnt agree with you more on Bob Turner a legend to put on the Pats jersey not to mention the Canadiens jersey as well.........

I never said he didnt deserve to have his jersey hanging in the rafters, all i said is he should of let someone else retire his jersey instead of him retireing his own jersey when he was the GM

The brilliance of his junior hockey career was acknowledged in 1959 when the Pats retired his jersey -- No. 17 -- during a ceremony at Exhibition Stadium.

A banner bearing his number hangs from the Agridome rafters. The sweater is also on display in the arena's lobby. from the thread http://www.whlfans.ca/showthread.php?t=2515 (post #2 about 1/3 down)

Hehe, I think about that from time to time, too. Usually before the pregame show...I'll just sit and look at all the banners. The history here is amazing, something that most teams in this league don't have. (Certainly not 90 years worth...wow next season will be the Pats 90th...save for a few war years I believe?) That's the first thing I notice in any rink...the banners. It's about time they retired another jersey! It's been awhile, and there are tons of great candidates.

wow ok i was always under the asumtion that Hicke retired his own jersey in the 80's......... that is very rare tho that a team retires a guys jersey the nexted season after his junior career ended.....thanks for the article to prove me wrong

I was looking thru some old hockey stats and came across another name that could be added to the possible list of future retired numbers... Fran Huck

I don't know what jersey # he wore but I found his Pats stats and WOW...
