The Giants can't say they swept the Tips. They can say they earned 11 of a possible 12 points against them this year, though. With 18 seconds to go in OT, Brady Calla received a good look from Mitch Love and put it home for a 4-3 winner. The Giants end up with 5 wins and an OT loss against Everett this season.

Two things happened of note in this one. In the 1st period Watt tried to go with Love. Love didn't drop the mitts, Watt did. Watt punched and tried to get him to go, but Mitch wanted nothing to do with it. Mitch earned a 2 minute holding penalty, Watt earned 4 minutes and a 10 minute misconduct. As he went to the box he did the chicken dance directed toward mitch. That's what earned him some extra penalty time.

I have to say, I supported Mitch earlier in the year when, late in a game, he baited an opponent into dropping the gloves, then didn't go. My point there was it was late in the game against a division rval & the Tips had been playing poorly...desparately needing the points. IMO he was doing whatever needed to be done, as a good captain should, to get some points. In this case, I have to kind of agree with Watt. It was early in the game, Tips all ready up 1-0 and Watt was all over him. He HAS to go in that situation. By not going he just looks bad. That being said, I all ready know what other Tips fans are going to say, The Tips SCORED on the enduing PP to make it 2-0. In essence, what Mitch did worked. It doesn't mean I have to like it.

The 2nd thing that happened was the biggest hit in the history of the Events Center...too bad it was a Tip (Wuchturl) who took it. I think it was Courchaine, but it mught have been Mezaros, I was too busy watching Wuchturl spin through the air to notice. Let me say for the record the hit happened directly in front of my section and despite the ensuing "ref you suck" chant it was a perfectly CLEAN hit. Wuchturl was going at his normal mach 10 speed and the Giant player simply made a good hit. Wuchturl kind of jumped up and to the side to try and avoid it and it ended up looking like a hip check with Wuchturl spinng at least one and a half times in the air before finally dropping to the ice in "pain." I put pain in quotes because despite being helped off the ice and into the locker room without putting any weight on his leg, he missed all of one shift before he came back onto the ice to register an assist on the goal that made the score 3-2. Good no call by the ref (we bad mouth them enough, we should also give them their due).

One last note: apologies to the Giants fans hoping to catch this one on Tips TV. I see on their website it wasn't shown for technical reasons. You missed a good one.

Thanks for the Giants puck, Mitch!

This game was shown on the Tips website. It didn't work for the first 5 to 10 minutes of the game but afterwards it worked fine. I watched the rest of the game that way.

Meszaros was the one with the hit. What an amazing hit! I need to see a replay of it. Seeing it one time isn't enough!

Congrats on the win.

It was by far the best CLEAN hit I've ever seen live and in person. If you think it was good on Tips TV, you would have loved to have it happen in front of your section. I truely hope the Giants and Tips meet up in the playoffs becasue not only are these games great, the hitting is the best of the year.

The other nice thing about it was the ref (Devin Klein) seemed to call a lot of penalties the first two periods, then in the third...none. He let them play after setting the tone early.

Although the Giants didn't win, from what I heard on the Radio, it was an extremly entertaining game. I love it when these 2 teams play, it always a good game.

And it was Mezsaros that made that hit!

Excellent game. Couv games are always fun. As I am typing this I am hearing a Ad on the radio for the game that just happened. Tommorrow should be fun, I have skating, Tips game, Skating. Hopefully I can learn by then.
