It looks like the Vancouver Giants are planning on making another late-season forward addition, someone who happens to be a childhood buddy of one of their defenceman.

Giants acquire Junior A forward

It looks like the Vancouver Giants are planning on making another late-season forward addition, someone who happens to be a childhood buddy of one of their defenceman.

General manager Scott Bonner confirmed Monday that the Giants had signed former Everett Silvertips forward Jonathan Milhouse, 18, to an affiliate card and expect him to join the club when his Junior A season with the Santa Fe Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League is over.

Milhouse is originally from Yorba Linda, Calif., and played minor hockey with Giants defenceman Jon Blum, 18. They actually share the same Jan. 30 birthday.

Last season, Vancouver added centre Brett Parker, who had grown up with Giants defenceman Paul Albers, after his Saskatchewan Junior A campaign had ended.

"He's a real good skater, real fast," Blum said of Milhouse. "He's a good penalty killer. He works real hard."

Albers talked to Parker almost daily prior to him signing on with Vancouver. Blum hasn't done that with Milhouse, but admits that Bonner had him to put in a good word.

Milhouse, who is listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, had no points in 26 games with Everett last season and no points in seven games with them this season before he was re-assigned. He's not going be on the power-play in Vancouver, but he does provide depth, especially in the wake of the injury to winger Garet Hunt (broken leg).

Milhouse had initially jumped to the U.S. Hockey League's Chicago Steel after leaving Everett. He was released there earlier this month, after recording one goal in 13 games. He has two assists in three games with Santa Fe so far.

The NAHL regular season ends April 1, with the playoffs to follow.

Too easy I know, but hard to resist...

The more witty headline would have been to say "Everything is coming up Milhouse!"

But I wonder how many people reading the paper would have got it.

Too bad he's not a goalie, otherwise I would've used this one:

Heck he couldn't make Everett. There are going to be holes next season. Plus if the Giants don't go deep he wouldn't be available until the Memorial Cup and just to play him in the tournament isn't right.

They had a spot open since Hunt's injury and probably thot to add him...just in case of inury. They can't go out and trade for anyone so he's just a listed player available if need be..Much like the youonger guys once their league is over.
