Eventually, Hitmen beat up on Blades

It took some time, but once the Calgary Hitmen figured out Braden Holtby, it was lights out for the Saskatoon Blades.

The Saskatoon goaltender stood on his head for almost 30 minutes Tuesday night, staking his team to a 2-0 lead, before the Hitmen scored six goals in a row en route to a 6-2 victory in the opener of a three-game Western Hockey League road trip.

The Hitmen, who totally dominated the game in taking a 2-1 lead in the season series, swing into Prince Albert tonight and wrap up the junket Friday at Moose Jaw.

Calgary, which upped its road record to 13-12-1-3, outshot the Blades 13-3 in the first period, but trailed 1-0 because of Holtby's heroics. The Blades jumped ahead 2-0 just 23 seconds into the second period, Justin McCrae scoring his second straight goal on a power-play, but that was the end of the nonsense.

Freddie Pettersson, Ryan White and Brett Sonne, with his fourth shorthanded goal of the season, scored four minutes apart before the 13-minute mark as they poured another 16 shots at Holtby in the second period.

White's 28th goal ended an 0-for-11, run on the power play in the three games against the Blades. White also had an assist to up his league-leading points total to 81.

The assault continued into the third with Brodie Dupont, with his team-leading 34th goal, Derek LeBlanc and Keegan Dansereau, who also had two assists in his home town, scoring as the Hitmen fired the last of 43 shots at Holtby.

Dupont stretched his point streak to nine games.
