Saskatoon, SK: The Saskatoon Blades and the Saskatoon Minor Hockey, in a joint announcement this afternoon, have reached an agreement on a major partnership that will provide many young hockey players in Saskatoon Minor Hockey the opportunity to play for the Saskatoon Blades. Beginning with the 2007-2008 season the entire Novice Division of Saskatoon Minor Hockey will play under the Saskatoon Blades name and brand, while retaining the identity and colours of the their zones.

Highlights of this exciting new partnership include: All seven (7) Saskatoon Minor Hockey Zones; Knights, Flyers, Comets, Raiders, Barons, Bobcats and Redwings will be adding the prefix “Blades” to their names, e.g. Blades Knights, Blades Comets, etc. Secondly, the Saskatoon Blades logo will adorn the fronts of each jersey in each zones’ respective colour while the zone will retain it’s identity by having their logo on the shoulder of each jersey.

The Blades will also offer a yearly coaching clinic to all Novice coaches, a Fair Play Jamboree for parents, coaches and players at Credit Union Centre and fundraising and team apparel opportunities. In addition the Saskatoon Blades players will provide mentorship to Novice age players by attending practices and each Novice aged player will receive skating instruction during the year as part of today’s partnership.

Blades Governor and President Jack Brodsky commented on today’s landmark announcement by saying “We are absolutely thrilled by the opportunities this partnership brings to both parties. While having the Blades brand on every jersey in the Novice age division is great exposure for us, it gives every player in the minor hockey system a chance to play for the Saskatoon Blades. We also know that our coaches and players will make a significant contribution to the program through the very important coaching clinic, Fair Play Jamboree and Novice team practice components of the partnership. In addition to the player development aspect from our involvement, we were thrilled to hear that some of the proceeds of this partnership will be used to enhance skill development of Novice players.”

Saskatoon Minor Hockey Executive Director Kelly Boes added “The Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association looks forward to this exciting new partnership with the Saskatoon Blades. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to further the developmental opportunities for our Novice age players, their coaches and their parents.”

ya its a great idea but i feel that when you play a rival team, you know you hate there jersey, logo and all the other different things, but now you basically see your team but different color, kinda weird. but other wise it might bring some new fans to the games.
