02/22/07 - SCHNEIDER RECALLED; RODGERS, JORGENSEN GETTING SURGERY
February 22nd, 2007 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KAMLOOPS, BC – The Kamloops Blazers will be without the services of 20-year-old captain Reid Jorgensen for up to three weeks as he prepares for surgery to remove a bursa sac in his elbow. Jorgensen, the league’s co-leader in goals with 39, will have the procedure done on Friday morning and is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday. He is scheduled to return to the lineup on March 14th as the Blazers visit Seattle.
17-year-old forward Alex Rodgers also requires surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder suffered on February 9th in Vancouver. The surgery, a date for which is still to be determined, will be season-ending.
The Blazers have also recalled 16-year-old defenseman Mark Schneider from the Brandon Midget “AAA” Wheat Kings and will remain with the team through to March 1st. Schneider is expected to play on Friday night as the Blazers host the Chilliwack Bruins.
Schneider, who made his WHL debut with the Blazers on January 5th against Kelowna, leads all defensemen in Manitoba Midget League scoring with 14 goals and 54 points in 37 games. Schneider joins 15-year-old goaltender James Priestner as affiliate players for the coming week.
