It's two down but lots to go in the 2007 Broncos Goals for Education Lottery.

Keith Hall of Mortlach was the lucky winner of the $25,000 early bird draw in the Goals for Education Lottery on Friday night when the Broncos defeated the Prince Albert Raiders.

Broncos fans still have the opportunity to be eligible for the $100,000 grand prize and a number of other great prizes. A total of 2,300 tickets have been sold thus far, with only 700 tickets remain available.

The Goals for Education Lottery is the Broncos biggest fundraiser of the season, with all proceeds from the lottery shared between the Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors player scholarship fund.

"We've been real happy with Lottery sales to this point, and our goal is still to sell all 3000 available tickets," commented Broncos Assistant General Manager/Director of Operations Elden Moberg. "We know we have an $80,000 commitment to scholarships this year, and this project is key in funding that commitment."

One former Bronco who benefited from the WHL's scholarship fund is Gull Lake native Jeff Kirwan. Kirwan played 319 regular season games and registered 263 points for the Broncos from 1993-98.

Kirwan went on to appear in 118 games for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies hockey team in three years while studying Agriculture.

Kirwan noted that the hockey at the university level was quite similar to the WHL only the players were faster, stronger, and more experienced.

Kirwan believes that he would have attended university without the Scholarship Fund, but the money available to him certainly made it a lot easier.

Kirwan now resides in Gull Lake and is employed in his field of study at South West Terminal as a crop inputs manager. Kirwan is now married to Adele whom he met in Swift Current and they have one child.

Kirwan noted that he still keeps in touch with some of his former Broncos teammates, though not as many as he would like to. He also gets into Swift Current to see Broncos games at various times during the season and says that the hockey seems fairly similar except for there is a little bit more scoring now.

The final draws, which will feature a $100,000 grand prize, will take place on March 17th when the Broncos travel to Moose Jaw in the Broncos final game of the regular season.

Tickets for this year's Goals for Education Lottery can be purchased by calling the ticket hotline at 1-888-640-GOAL (4625).

Southwest Booster Sales Manager Mark Soper, Golden West Radio's Ryan Switzer, and Broncos Marketing and Sales Director Corey Nyhagen make the $25,000 early bird draw in the Goals for Education Lottery on Feb. 16 during the first intermission of the Broncos 4-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders. Keith Hall of Mortlach was the lucky winner.

Doug Corrins of Swift Current was presented with a cheque for $5,000 as the winner of the Goals for Education Lottery early bird draw.
