After chasing the Saskatoon Blades for the entire
season, the Brandon Wheat Kings have finally moved into sole posession of
top spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division.

The Wheat Kings vaulted past the idle Blades and into first place
Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over the Pats in Regina.

With the win, Brandon's eleventh in a row, the Wheat Kings improved
their record to 37-19-5-1 on the season, good for 80 points and a two
point lead on the second place Blades.

All star right-winger Eric Fehr was a one man wrecking crew Sunday,
scoring three goals - his league leading 49th, 50th and 51st of the
season, becoming the first Wheat King in over twenty years to score back to
back 50-goal seasons. Kelly Glowa followed up a 59-goal season in
1981-82 with a 71-goal campaign in '82-83.

Fehr, who currently leads the WHL in scoring with 51 goals and 91
points is also trying to become the first Brandon player in 21 years to win
the league scoring title. Former Los Angeles King center Ray Ferraro
led the WHL with 192 points including 108 goals during the 1983-84
season.

17-year old rookie Ryan Reaves also scored for the Wheat Kings, who led
3-0 and 4-0 at the period breaks. The Pats scored three unanswered
third period goals to pull to within one.

Winners of thirteen of their last 14 games, the Wheat Kings will now
travel to Saskatoon for the opening game of a home and home series with
the Blades on Tuesday night. The two teams will then play Wednesday
night - Rain Check Night - at the Keystone Centre.

Tuesday's game will be televised "live" on Shaw Cable and locally by
Westman Communications Group Channel 12, with the opening face-off set
for 7 p.m.
