Everett Silvertips Press Release

Mike Alexander Scored His First Career Goal
Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips defeated the Kamloops Blazers 4-1 on Wednesday night in the final regular season meeting between the two teams. The Silvertips also reached another franchise milestone with the victory: 50 wins on the season. Everett's record in total is now 50-11-1-2 (103 pts) overall and 21-9-1-1 on the road. They sweep the regular season series against the Blazers 4-0.

The opening 20-minutes ran their course in a relatively uneventful fashion. However, they did serve as the initial period in Kellan Tochkin's Western League career. As a result of the team's injury situation, the Silvertips made a short notice call-up of Tochkin - the team's first round pick (13th overall) in the 2006 Bantam draft - for tonight's game. He served as a forward while another of Everett's affiliate players, Jeff Regier, was called-up once again to help out with defense. For Regier it was his fourth career game with all of those coming in the month of February.

In the second period both teams got on the board, but the Silvertips were able to do it twice. First, it was Zach Hamill scoring on a rebound at 2:14 off of Regier's shot from the point. Jesse Smyke was credited with the secondary assist. Ray Macias would score a power play goal for Kamloops, but just over two-minutes later Everett regained the lead. On the team's third power play, Lukas Vartovnik and Dan Gendur exchanged control of the puck in the Kamloops zone. Gendur then sent it to the front of the net where Brandon Campos was positioned at the top of the crease. He was able to get his stick on the rubber and deflect the puck past Blazers goaltender Dustin Butler at 9:48.

Everett solidified their victory with a goal early in the third period that involved a trio of firsts. Mike Alexander skated into the slot and blew his shot by Butler at 2:50 for his first career goal. Matt Ius picked up the primary assist and for him it was his first career point. Meanwhile, the secondary assist went to Jesse Burt which for him was his first career assist to go with a pair of goals he has from earlier in the season. Through the heart of the period Silvertips goalie David Reekie performed several big saves in net to help maintain the two goal lead until Dane Crowley was able to score an empty-netter at 19:47. Ius picked up the lone assist.

The Silvertips return home to the Everett Events Center for a pair of games this weekend. First up on Friday night, March 2nd, the Portland Winter Hawks make their final trip to Everett this season for a 7:35 p.m. start time. Then on Saturday night, March 3rd, the Spokane Chiefs make their final regular season visit as well for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
