Me, GBG BLEED BLUE, BladeRunner and another frineds are coming on the Blades fan bus for there road trip and for 2 nights we are staying at the Days Inn downtown and i was just wondering were some surten places are:

How close are these places to the Days Inn Downtown -

Fast Food
The LB or Offsale
Confectionary or somewhere to buy snacks or smokes past midnight.
Pool Hall
Malls
And do you know of any pizza joints were to oder from?

I kinda wanna access these places without taking the rail train or whatever its called cause i have a fealing i might get lost on when rail train to take ti get back to the Hotel. I don't want to be rude but is downtown Calgary ok to walk around after midnight. Both nights we arrive in Calgary it will be around that time.

It would be really nice if someone could post were some of those places are cause i know that Calgary is a very confusing place if you have only been there a couple of times.

Thanks!

Or you could be alittle more patient and wait for one of us to help you out. Besides I am sure you all know how to use google to find some info on your own.

This might help you.

I don't travel downtown very often, so can't give you much in the way of specifics for the area.

However, there is no Days Inn in downtown. I am presuming that you are staying at the Calgary South location, which is a short distance south of Downtown on MacLeod Trail at 38th Avenue S.

If this is indeed correct, then there is a McDonalds and a Taco Bell/Time (don't remember which exactly) within walking distance. There is a 7-11 on the corner of MacLeod and 39th Avenue for your snacks and smokes.

The C-train is hard to get lost on. The 39th Avenue station would be your starting point, and the northbound train takes you to the Saddledome (Victoria Park/Stampede station), then into Downtown, and ultimately the Northwest.

For malls, Chinook Centre is the largest mall in Calgary, and is south of that hotel on MacLeod Trail, also within walking distance from a C-train stop (Chinook Station), and further south is Southcentre Mall (Anderson Station). Within downtown itself, There is Eaton Centre, and a mall that crosses several downtown buildings via +15 walkways, not precicely sure which C-train stops would take you there.

Per the discussion on hfboards - if you are staying at the Calgary South hotel, and have no independent vehicle, then Peters Drive In is likely out. That is up on 16th Avenue North, well away from where you apparently will be. It also lacks an indoor dining area, so you would be at the mercy of the weather anyway.

Pizza wise, Toms House of Pizza is a decent local chain. There are also the standard national/regional brands: Panago, Pizza 73 and Western Pizza, all of whom deliver.

Oh, and when you get to Calgary, beware the Heroin Beer at the Saddledome. It has a local reputation for getting you buzzed real fast. ;)

Don't be so impatien BladeRunner. You posted the question at 1 am and got snarly at 9 am. Most people sleep during that time. And a good portion of fans are in Vancouver watchin the Hitmen beat Giants.
Anyhow, if you are staying at the one on MacLeod their is a Hooters across the street. There is also a good drinking place called Back Alley across the street. Also a pool hall and a liquor sore in the same area.

They said that there is one just outside of downtown. When i phoned the direct assistance in calgary they thought of 2 Days Inn i was talking about. They told me the 2 that where the closest to downtown and they said one was in the airport somewhere and one by downtown so i think its the one by downtown so..... but ya i don't know what the Booster Club is thinking??? Maybe they should get their information straight before the make a new letter and tell fans information about the trip!

The Days Inn that you probably are staying at is on MacLeod and 45 th Ave. City Center is around 5 ave, so you are about 40 blocks away. A short ride on the LRT (train service) which stops at 39 Ave & MacLeod.
If it's not this one then you are a long way to downtown. Hopefully it's the first. The Saddledome is only 2 stops away on the LRT. Quite close. Also across the street from the Dome there is 2 casino's if you like to gamble.

$2.25 per person each way. You can get a book of ten tickets at any convienence story for $19.50, so if you have a group of five people going down to Chinook Centre (as an example), that wuold be slightly cheaper.

Though I imagine that if you are busing in, the bus would also take you from the hotel to the Saddledome?

Just received an email fom the Booster Club that there is only single tickets left for the game. And today is only Wednesday. I'm not sure if they opened the top tier yet but I would imagine if the demand is there then that will be opened. So make sure that the bus leaves in time so you don't get caught in traffic. Fans here are notorius for showing up at the last moment so there will be a lot of people showing up at the last moment. Also we move the clock ahead an hour Saturday so set your clock accordingly. Hope you Blades fans enjoy the game (even in defeat). Junior hockey is the bests.

Usually the Fan Bus takes us to the arenas an hour or so before the game starts.... cause the bus has to find somewhere to park and for fans from out of town its sometimes confusing finding your seating in an unformilor arena

If you check ticketmaster, you can't even get singles in the lower two bowls. and yup, they have opened the 300s.

That would suggest the crowd will easily top 17,000. wonder if we can sell out the upper loges as well, and take a shot at Portland's single game record?

On the off chance that our friends from Saskatoon get on the net from a hotel, expect looooooong lineups for concessions because of the size of the crowd. They don't open all stands, as the Hitmen don't have the staff to handle such a crowd properly. Get your food, etc before the game starts.

Fantastic crowd today. Shame we couldnt sell 90 more tickets to break the league record.

Hitmen played great tonight, and the Blades put in a pretty good showing themselves, all things considered.

The post game interview with Spence after he threw up on the ice was just about the funniest thing I have ever heard. I just can't believe the announcers asked for a play by play of what happened there. Spence lost that fight pretty badly though.
