Mullen Pleads Guilty

The 23 year old man charged in connection to a terrible crash that injured three members of the Moose Jaw Warriors pleaded guilty to one of three charges in court on Monday.

23 year old Curtis Jay Mullen and his lawyer getting down to business in Moose Jaw Provincial Court today.

After a number of previous court appearances, Mullen entered a plea of guilty today to one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Two other charges, impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving while over .08, were stayed by the Crown.

Mullen was driving a pick-up truck that slammed into a car carrying three members of the Moose Jaw Warriors early one Sunday morning last October.

Joey Perricone, Carter Smith and Garrett Robinson had just arrived home on the team bus and were on their way home after unpacking their gear at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre.

They were west-bound on Caribou Street West when they were broad-sided by the south-bound pick-up.

Perricone and Smith suffered relatively minor injuries. Robinson suffered serious head injuries. He was in a coma for several days after the crash. He continues his recovery in Vancouver with daily trips to a rehab centre.

Mullen will be sentenced May 7th.

As I recall, the maximum penalty for dangerous driving causing injury is up to a year in jail, an $8000 fine and loss of your license for a year. At least this is how it was about 15 years ago.

This guilty plea can now put him in prison for a maximum of 10 years. He will only get the maximum if his past criminal record is long. The sentance will be issued after his past criminal record is looked at.
