MAR 5 - The Swift Current Broncos were challenged with a difficult task over the weekend as the team travelled to Medicine Hat and Kootenay on Friday and Saturday night to take on two of the best home teams in the WHL in the Tigers and the Ice.

Friday night saw a hard fought game that eventually ended in a 3-0 Tigers shutout win over the Broncos thanks to goals by Brennan Bosch, Chris Stevens, and Jakub Rumpel. The Broncos couldn't score on any of their 23 shots while Kyle Moir stopped 24 of 27 Medicine Hat shots.

The team then travelled to Kootenay on Saturday night where they dealt the Ice just their 6th loss on home ice in 2006/07 season. Michael Wilson (PP), Zack Smith, Levi Nelson (PP), and Kyle Bortis all scored for the Broncos in the victory with Nelson going on to receive 1st star honours in the game. Kyle Moir made the start in goal and stopped 22 of 24 Kootenay shots while the Broncos put 31 shots towards Kris Lazaruk.

Broncos goaltender Kyle Moir is now tied with Jeff Calvert for the Canadian Hockey League record for games played by a goaltender. Moir's appearance against the Kootenay Ice on Saturday night was the 229th game of his career, tying Calvert's record that was set in 1994.

Phil Gervais' team Alberta defeated Geordie Wudrick's team BC at the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, YK 4-3 in the Bronze Medal Game. Gervais finished the tournament with 2 points (0G; 2A) while Wudrick had a strong showing and posted 2 goals and 5 assists.

This week the Broncos will travel to Regina on Wednesday night to take on the Pats, who the team trails for 2nd place in the East Division. The team's next home action is set to take place this weekend as the Broncos host the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night and the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.
