I heard on the radio today that Toigo has negotiated a new lease of the Coliseum with the PNE for ten years. This will include more upgrades to the Coliseum before the Memorial cup which includes a new video screen.

OOOOOOOOOH...will it be easier to see through the netting than the current one? I sure hope so!

I think it is actually going to be a whole new scoreboard.

The reason why the current video screens are so washed out looking is that the TV lights are too bright. When the TV lights were put in for the canucks all those years ago, they didn't have video boards and only had the clock that the Giants use now. Toigo had to put the video screens under the current clock which in in a direct path of the lights. If you look up you will notice that the PNE keeps one bank of lights off so the west side of the building can kinda see the screens. Classic example of old vs. new technology.

Makes sense.
But I think my problem is partially because of the netting. Either way, hopefully the new one will solve those problems, because not being able to see anything on that screen is one of my biggest pet peeves when I'm there.

Hmmm isn't the video screen relatively new? I remember seeing it for the first time and I had to laugh. You can't see diddly on that thing.

Good job Mr Toigo. dancing pi

Does anyone know when the new scoreboard will be installed? Will we get to see it before the Memorial Cup?

All I can say it good riddance, and hopefully we can actually SEE replays now.

I would think that means yes.

Hmmm didn't the Canuckles screen get installed quickly? I have a feeling if they want they could install it quickly :)

it would take more than few days to install it properly -- if its bigger the rigging will need to be adjusted and then they usually spend a couple of days testing connections etc.

They would need at least four days with nothing else i the building by my estimation to do it properly, but then they could do round the clock crews and get it done in two, I suppose.

Make it really good. That way don't have to wait till the intermission and wait for Joey to give the out of town scores.

I guess they could install the clock after game two of the Chilliwack series as likely not going to come back for game five. There is time between the start of the playoffs and the end of the regular season but that is likely pushing it.

That would pretty much guarantee a game 5. ;)

You know, as thrilled as I am to be getting a new video screen, in some strange way, I'm going to miss the current scoreboard. I'll probably change my mind once I see the new one, but it will be wierd getting used to it.

Maybe they're getting the old one from GM Place, since I think it pretty much just got stuck in storage when the new one went in.

(On that note, I get my first look at the new one there in person tomorrow at the Detroit game! Woot!)

They wont be getting the old one from GM Place unless somebody is completely off their rocker. One of the main reasons that they got rid of that one is because the light bulbs are basically non-exsistant, and if you can find them, they cost a small fortune. I believe that scoreboard was scrapped all together.

The new board at GM place is very nice, saw it when I was at the canucks game on tuesday.

It can be very distracting though depending on where you sit in the building, but the stats and what not that they keep up there are very good.

The new ring around the building can be distracting as well, especially when the Home Hardware ad comes up, it is bright yellow and changes the whole colour tone of the building.

All in all though, it is top knotch and very professional looking.
