Calgary, AB -- The Western Hockey League today announced the tie-breaker format should the East Division have a two or three way tie for the final playoff position at the end of the regular season.

1) In the East Division, if two Clubs finish tied in points for the final playoff spot, they will play a sudden-death game on Tuesday, March 20. The site for the game will be determined by which Club has the most victories in regular season standings. Should they be tied in victories, the Club with the most points in games between the two teams during the regular season will host the game. If that is also tied, the Club with the better ratio when taking goals for and subtracting goals against in regular season play will host the game.

2) In the East Division, if Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Saskatoon all finish tied in points, one team will be eliminated based on the following tie-breaking criteria. The first tie-breaker is victories, so the Club with the fewest victories among the three Clubs would be eliminated. If all three Clubs are tied in victories, the second tie-breaker is taking goals for and subtracting goals against. The Club with the greatest negative ratio would be eliminated. As soon as one Club is eliminated, the tie-breaker rules for two Clubs listed in 1) above take effect to determine which Club will have home-ice advantage in the sudden-death game.

There will not be a 3 way tie this year. For it to happen Sask has to beat PA in OT twice and MJ needs 3 points against SC.
