Yay!!! I worked tonight so I only got to listen to the third period...must've been a good game though? They should be able to wrap this thing up at home on Friday. Woohoo!!! I said Pats in 5, but I figured they'd get a split in Swift, not at home! Oh well...by losing that game, they did two very important things. 1, they can't get ahead of themselves and have to actually PLAY the games to win them and 2, they've proved (especially to themselves) that they can win 2 games in a row on the road which hasn't really happened this year. And a bonus...they can win it AT HOME! Yay!! Heh...I'm a little excited. :)

P.S. I like Dan Plaster...he's a little bit wacky, but very entertaining. Anyone listening to the game find that he did a good job? He sounded pretty good to me but, again, I missed most of the game.

Edit: Oops...That should be a 3, not a 2!!! Man, I even got the edit backwards! lol thanks for straightening me out, nivek! "should be a 2 not a 3"!!

First and foremost, thanks to all the Pats fans who visited the C.C.C. I hope you had a good time. Thanks for supporting our hockey club.

Secondly, I would like to say there is a reason a series has seven games. It ain't over yet. As far as the losses are concerned, I take results as they come. I'm never one to complain, or b*tch. We took two losses, and it hurts. I live for this team. But, there's still a game to go, and I'll be in Regina full force on Friday.

Thirdly, I'd like to say I have completely enjoyed the hockey season and our team so far. It's been worth every penny.

On Friday, LET'S GO SWIFTY!!!

Vaseline Gate

SWIFT CURRENT -- I was offered a security escort out of the Centennial Civic Centre here Wednesday night after the Pats' 5-2 playoff win over the Broncos.

You might ask why?

Well, for years I've been annoyed by the Swift Current fans' irritating habit of banging on the bottom and sides of my broadcast booth when their team scores.

So after Tuesday's Game 3, we cooked up a plan to get those fans back. One word: Vaseline.

So prior to Game 4 Wednesday, Pats' trainer Greg Mayer provided me with an industrial-sized jar of Vaseline and I coated the outside of the booth with it.

I was almost done when CBC's Glenn Reid tipped me off that the arena staff was onto my prank. I quickly scampered down to the sanctity of the dressing room.

It was 0-0 after the first period, and there was no banging. But in the second period, Swift Current scored and away they went. For a few seconds. Then it stopped.

It returned with a vengeance in the third, and I figured they'd wiped it off.

During the postgame show after Regina's 5-2 win, I was getting text messages from Pats' staff asking if I wanted security. I wondered why. Then coach Hunt slipped me a note during the postgame interview that there was a group waiting for me outside the booth.

The Pats' Cliff Mapes and Brent Parker were standing close by along CTV's Kelly Remple. One of them reportedly bore a striking resemblance to WWF alumnus Hillbilly Jim. But Huntsy gave him an icy stare, had a few words for him, and they soon left before I came down the stairs.

There was still a gang of security upon my arrival, and two of them asked if I feared for my own safety leaving the facility. I was told an escort would be provided but I said that won't be necessary.

Thank God I didn't take Mayer's suggestion of Deep Cold Therapy, or the players' suggestion of blue and white paint. I read the warning label of the Deep Cold gel and it said if ingested, to call a poison control centre. I wasn't in the mood for a lawsuit.

"That's old time hockey stuff!" smiled Mapes.

Remple overheard the gentleman saying he was going to harm me physically and wipe it on my suit.

It was all clean fun. The inspiration was former Pats' forward Cory Dosdall who vaselined the seats of The Dirty Dozen, a group of menacing fans in Medicine Hat who sat behind the visitors' bench and heckled. I always thought it was ingenious.

-----------

As for the game itself, it was 0-0 after one and 3-2 Pats after two. Garret Festerling scored in the 3rd to make it 4-2 and Kyle Ross added an empty-netter to cap a 5-2 win and give Regina a 3-1 series lead heading home for Game 5 Friday night.

Ross ended up with two on the night while Logan Pyett and Michael MacAngus had the others. I had the Pats 2/6 on the powerplay and 6/6 on the PK. They outshot the Broncos 28-27.

"I thought it was simply an all-out effort by our guys," said Hunt on the postgame, "we gave Linden Rowat a lot of help and kept the shots from the outside and he did all the rest. Our special teams were good, and now we need to close it out on Friday."

-----------

Catch PatsTV Thursday night at 6:30 on Access 7. We'll have a media panel on the show including CJME's Mitchell Blair and CTV's Chris Hodges.

Have a good one!

Haha...good stuff! I have to say, I like the paint idea...imagine those Bronco fans with blue and white hands. lol that Deep Cold stuff would've been funny too, but I guess lawsuits are no fun. That stuff is like catnip for my cat, he loves the stuff...

Well, I guess we know how Dean Chynoweth feels about his team tonight...anyone see him on CTV? hehe

I have to say, "WOW!!"

I have never ever heard Deano talk like that! As much as I hope it is not, I guess his job might be in jeopardy. I really like the guy. I think he knows what he's doing. I hope he gets signed for another three years.

Anyway, we have another kick at it on Friday. LET'S GO BOYS!!

Meh, I don't think it was about his job, I think it was about the game...Curtis Hunt talks like that all the time! Well, not so much with words, but you can see it in his eyes lol. It's good to show a little emotion...

Road victories give Pats control

The Leader-Post
Published: Thursday, March 29, 2007

The Regina Pats are just one win away from advancing to the second round of the WHL playoffs for the first time in nine years.

Regina posted its second straight road victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night with a 5-2 decision before 1,845 fans at the Centennial Civic Centre. Just 24 hours earlier, Regina won 5-4 in Swift Current.

The Pats lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal 3-1, with a chance to wrap it up Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

"We have to get ready for Friday night now," Pats GM Brent Parker said from Swift Current. "We've really tried to approach it one game at a time. We had a real businesslike approach to the game tonight. We were real solid right from start to finish."

In the process, the Pats also showed they can be successful in a hostile environment.

"We did a good job of preparing ourselves," added Parker. "A lot has been made of our inability to win on the road but we've won three of our last four now on the road and we were a .500 road team since Jan. 1. We've played better on the road than our record indicated. I felt confident after (winning Game 3 in Swift). I think that was a real growing point for us."

Kyle Ross scored twice for the Pats, who got one goal and one assist apiece from Michael MacAngus, Logan Pyett and Garrett Festerling. Jordan Eberle added two helpers.

Levi Nelson and R.J. LaRochelle replied for the Broncos, who were outshot 28-25. Pats goalie Linden Rowat stopped all nine shots he faced in the third period to seal the win. Kyle Moir took the loss.

"We played a real solid game," said Parker. "All four lines were going, Linden was good and our special teams were good. It was a complete effort. We blocked shots, we took hits to make plays -- we did a lot of things you need to do to be successful at playoff time."

The Pats successfully weathered an early push by the home team and ended up with a 9-8 edge on the shot clock after a scoreless first period.

The game opened up in the second period with five goals in a span of just 13 minutes. Regina got on the board 5:14 into the frame during a 4-on-4 situation when MacAngus deflected a shot by Festerling.

Pyett gave the Pats a 2-0 lead at 11:08, potting his third goal in the past two games. Nelson, the Broncos' leading scorer in the regular season, replied 35 seconds later with his first goal of the series.

Regina restored the two-goal lead just 1:27 later thanks to a power-play marker by Ross. The Broncos responded again, making it 3-2 on a goal by LaRochelle with 1:40 left in the second period.

The Pats went up 4-2 early in the third when Festerling scored at the 3:27 mark. Ross added a short-handed empty-netter with 33 seconds remaining.

EXTRAS: Both teams have dressed the same lineup throughout the series ... Regina went 1-for-6 on the power play while holding Swift Current to an 0-for-7 effort ... If the Broncos can stave off elimination Friday, they would return home for Game 6 on Sunday night. Game 7, if necessary, would be played Tuesday at the Brandt Centre.

That is hillarious with what Roddy did. Was anyone else annoyed with trying to listen to Roddy on the radio and all you can hear is that banging.

Note to Big Ern...you are a great fan for the Bronco's and a very positive fan to the other teams. More fans should be like you. :turkey:

I'm good friends with Rod. He gives me a shout on air almost every game. He's a great guy.

Rod's thoughts... rodpedersen.com

Okay, so the firestorm has been touched off. Read any of the 22 comments on the below post and you'll know what I'm talking about.

People in Swift Current are up in arms over, I'm guessing, my comments about their facility and vaselining the outside of the broadcast booth so they can't bang on it.

Big deal.

If you think the Centennial Civic Centre is state-of-the-art, that wouldn't surprise me. However I've received tons of emails from other WHL broadcasters who thought the vaseline trick was ingenious. By the way, tampering with a live broadcast is a federal offense subject to imprisonment and a fine. I could carry this further if I wanted to. Poor Dan Plaster looked like he thought we were under attack.

If this series goes to Game 6 Sunday in Swift Current, it might be.

But nowhere in any of these posts have I criticized the people of Swift Current, the Broncos, nor the town. This is text book 'People Only Read Want They Want To Read' stuff. As a matter of fact, somebody wrote about this 'fall down and die' comment. Where on earth did that come from?? I don't even know what they're talking about. These things take on a life of their own, and this is a case of that.

And someone wrote in below asking if I was concerned that my pi$$ing off listeners in Swift Current may have ramifications come football season, ratings-wise.

If I cared about that, do you think I would've ragged on Moose Jaw all these years? Somebody told me once the people in Moose Jaw hate me in the winter and love me in the summer.

Ratings are huge because fans of those 'Dub teams ALWAYS listen to CKRM over their own broadcaster! I wish they wouldn't. But everything I say gets repeated on message boards endlessly -- the ratings go up, not down when I say these things.

And therein lies your answer.

Rod's thoughts... rodpedersen.com
Wow, I'm sorry but Rod needs to get over himself! I'm surprised he can fit in a broadcast booth with an ego that big.
