WHEATIES HOPE TO FEED OFF FANS

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings returned home Thursday morning and began preparations this afternoon for what will be their “biggest” game of the 2006-2007 Western Hockey League season.

Fresh off back to back losses in Calgary this week, the Wheat Kings will be hoping to extend their home ice winning streak when they take to the ice Friday night in game five of their best of seven WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final.

Winners of fourteen straight games at the Keystone, including four in the playoffs, the Wheat Kings are hoping for a large, enthusiastic and noisy group of fans to turn out for game five.

“A large, noisy crowd can make a big difference,“ says Wheat Kings' marketing director Rick Dillabough. “The players often feed off them and the fans become essentially the Seventh Man out there.“

With game six scheduled for Sunday night back in Calgary, Friday's game becomes critical for the Wheat Kings, who established a franchise attendance record during the regular season by averaging 4,100 fans per game. During the playoffs, however, Brandon has drawn an average of 3,600 fans per game.

Fans attending game five Friday night are encouraged to make lots of noise, and bring back their best “Smiley“ face.

As of Thursday afternoon, approximately 3,000 tickets had been purchased for Friday night's game.
