Since the hockey lockout i have been caught in the Poker craze. Anybody else seem to catch on? I find myself instead of watching tv...logging online and trying to UP my virtual money stack....I always head over to Pokerstars.net to play.......Anyone else out there have an itch for online poker?......and....ahhh the world's a much more dangerous place now that Martha stewart's out of jail..

It's huge in the States. Me and my buddies would play when we were bored/in-between frat parties. It gets pretty addictive, but I've learned to curb my....my......ALL-IN!!

.....oops.

I watch a bit on TSN, it's pretty cool. I also play quite often at empirepoker.com, it's a good site.

For the last year i have been heavily caught up in poker and would estimate that i've spent 500 hours playing. Tigertrama i too am on pokerstars.net so when you're playing sometime search my name and see if i'm online, my username there is smackitsakic as well. I've played close to half of those hours at real tables. The guys I play with in Swift are amateurs, however i have some intense competition up here in MJ. One of my playing partners used to manage a casino in Monte Carlo.
It's an amazing game. Anybody can learn how to play poker in a few days, however i've logged so much time and still feel as though i'm easily beatable. If you spent 500 hours on the ice or on the golf course you'll get good in a hurry. Poker it's kind of a different story.
In real life i'm about even, up maybe $50.
On the net i've turned my 1,500 chips into cloes to 100,000.

Hehe for me its one game of good luck one game of bad....I'm still abit of a newbie....but i got to learn to lay of the big bets when i have nothing...lol

my first three days i turned my stack from 1,500 to 39,000. I've seem to get greedy cause i only get around 30 minutes to play and i want to win right away.....right now im down to just under 5,000

About a week ago, I was able to get into an underground poker game. I went in with $75 and left empty handed after four hours. Buddy of mine came out with $650. I have yet to see the money transfer into my hands. You know, for being a good friend. :]

I've been playing basically since chrismas (thanks smackit :) ) Can't say i've logged a tonne of hours, but i've done enough for the general feel. If your new to this go to pokerstars.com, believe me i've got accounts with them, score poker, and tiger gaming, and pokerstars is the best site i've played. I am as good as anybody at catching cards and calling it skill, but actuall skill yeah i got little to none.

Online poker is great, especially b/c it expands the market of poker players. Online has allowed everybody to get better at understanding the game in a short period of time as it allows you to play real hands with real players. It does, however, set you up for a reality check when you sit down at a real table with real money. You have a strong understanding of what hands to play and when to play them, but you have no clue at all how to bet with those hands.
There is very little slow-playing involved with online poker, whereas it occurs almost every hand in real poker. Further, playing online involves no emotion and no reading of people. You can't base any decisions on your opponents when you're online b/c you dont' know if you're playing against Daniel Negreanu or a 7 year old kid who is wasting time. Trying to buy a pot online is easy - if you buy it then great, but if you don't and you lose your chips it's no big deal, you just click on the cash register and receive 1,000 more chips. It's not like that in real life - you either win or you lose. You have to pick your spots and be ready to face the loss if you get called on it.
Online poker is great, but it's like playing hockey on Nintendo, getting really good at it, and then not having a clue what to do when you've actually got the skates on your feet and a stick in your hands.
