FORMER CHIEF SCHELL NAMED ECHL MVP
4/18/2007

Former Spokane Chief Brad Schell was named the East Coast Hockey League’s MVP after leading the league in scoring with 25 goals, 85 assists and 110 points for the Gwinnett Gladiators. Schell was the Chiefs first round pick, third overall, in 1999 WHL Bantam Draft. In 239 career games from 2000 through 20004, Schell scored 70 goals and 183 points, including a career high 35 goals and 92 points in 2003-04.

Schell finished 16 points in front of second place in the scoring race despite playing in seven fewer games and is the first ECHL player to post over 100 points since the 2002-03 season. The Atlanta Thrashers sixth round pick in 2002 has since been called up to their American Hockey League Affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, and remains on their roster for the post season.

Schell posted career highs in both goals, with 25, and assists, with 85, on the year. His 85 assists ranks 4th all time in the ECHL for most assists in a season while it set a new all time Gladiators franchise record in that category. Schell’s 110 points was also a new all time Gladiators team franchise record for points in a season.

Schell was also named the captain of the American Conference squad for the 2007 ECHL All Star Game in Boise, ID. He collected a goal for the American Conference in a 6-3 win.
