Now that Peter Anholt is gone, who are the most likely candidates to fill the coaching positions next year?

Seems to me we need a real experienced guy who knows how to get the most out of each guy on the team, consistently. Obviously, Pete had a ton of experience, too, and he did have some success over the years, and probably got a fair bit of mileage out of the team this year in terms of achieving more than most expected from them, but for some reason not everyone was achieving all the time....

would Rob Daum be interested? He's been here before, plus a lot of other places...But, I don't know too much about him.. he had a nice career at U of A which obviously helped him get to the pro level... I could be right out to lunch on this, but seems to me him and his experience would be more what we need right now than somebody stepping up from midget ranks? Maybe a shorter learning cuve / adjustrment factor?? Thoughts?

Hobster i dont agree with you much but this time i do, don clark is the worst gm in the league hands down, he should of been fired long before anholt was let go.

You can throw all the names out there you want, but does a community based team that averages just under 3000 per game have enough dollars to attract the best possible coach to come to Prince Albert.

I agree PA's jersey colors are not to pleasing for the eye,and anything blue and white would be awesome(because both the Blades and Leafs have those colors)

or they could do that and look like the Tri City Americans, and Regina Pats.

Anything else but what they have now. Let's see if we can get back on topic. I seriously do not know is going to be PA's coach for next season, but I really could care less as long as they are bellow the Blades in the standing then it is all good.

Hmmmm. WHL has been in existence since 66-67...Blades have never won the championship. Leafs haven't won the championship since 66-67 season. They both wear blue and white.
Sounds like a winning colour combination haha

You know, I never even considered that! You bring up a valid point?!? Ferguson Jr., we as fans demand a jersey color change! Somehow I don't think that's all the LEAFS need! Boogaard'd

Manson? Don't you need to be able to talk? Plus he reduced his role this season,so I doubt he'll sign up for more work.

apparantly part of it was the clark/anholt duo. and im sure he could communicate just fine, not every coach needs to be heard all the way across the rink instructing the officials, :p

im suprised yawney would be willing to go from the ahl to nhl down to junior hockey. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

but yawney i hope doesnt come, he's like anholt in the defensive trapping, dump the puck in every chance and change, kind of style. (chicago improved a lot after denis savard started coaching and freed em up).
id prefer young or leonard (even though yawney has pro and nhl experiance)

My uncle and current Portland Winterhawk assistant coach and former raider Brian Pellerin has submitted his application for the job. Last night when he was at my parents house he said he had an interview later this week.

If Brian is as hardworking a coach as he was a player, he will make an excellent head coach

why would anybody wanna leave portland ? they got a great yound core and will soon be contenders.
im guessing if they are interviewing assistant coaches from the dub that leonard and yawney are out of the mix

I don't think that is the case. Clarke will take applications and interview many candidates. He would leave Portland to clime the coaching ladder. The Raiders have a good young team too.

I don't thin tim leonard should be given the head coaching position i think he should start out as an assistant and work his way up the two leagues are tottally different we need someone from outside that is well respected to come in and offer some different points of view and direction. don't get me wrong i think leonard is a hell of a coach but he needs to work his way up

Yeah I agree totally. You could be setting him up for a huge fall if you hurry him in there. He'd need to get his feet wet as a assistant first because the two leagues are completely different.

Hi everyone. Long time reader of this website, first time poster.

I just thought I would throw out a few more names for possible coaching candidates.

Why has nobody mentioned Bob Lowes. He's coached winning teams in this league before and he and his wife are from PA. If I'm not mistaken, he is currently scouting for Brandon.

Another person who has family ties to PA and he owns property at Emma Lake is Kevin Dickie. He is currently serving as Athletic Director for UNB, the current CIAU men's hockey champs. Maybe he would like to take another crack at coaching in the Dub.

Another coach I would like to be seriously considered is Boris Rybalka of the Camrose Kodiaks. He has an outstanding program in Camrose. He recently coached the Western Canadian jr A. team vs. the Russian Selects (I think), and his Kodiaks seem to be in the Royal Bank Cup every two years. He, like the others listed above, also has lots of family in the PA area. Maybe he might be interested in making the jump to the Dub.

Anyway, those are some names that I've thought of. Being that the Raider organization seem to be adding a lot of local talent on the ice, I thought they might do the same as far as coaching.

OK, let me re-word my post regarding Bob Lowes that was deleted.

I have heard from some of his former players and their parents that they did not have a positive experience and playing for him, and that he can be some what difficult to play for. I have seen posts on here saying some players don't like playing for Anholt and that they can't wait for the season to end, and I think it would be a similar situation for the Raiders if Lowes coached here.

I hope your team gets a good coach, thats all.
