Brandon Regier, anyone know anything about him? The Wheat Kings selected him with their 17th overall pick out of B.C,which is rare for Brandon to do that.

Calgary, Alberta – The Brandon Wheat Kings, for the first time ever, have chosen a player from British Columbia in the opening round of the Western Hockey League bantam draft.

With the seventeenth overall pick in Thursday’s bantam draft in Calgary, the Wheat Kings opted for highly touted right-winger Brandon Regier from Abbotsford, British Columbia.

As a member of the Abbotsford AAA bantam Hawks this past season, Regier scored 49 goals and 72 points in 55 games. As well, he accumulated 164 minutes in penalties.

“Brandon is a big physical player with good offensive ability,” says Brandon coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon. “We look forward to him joining the organization.”

Regier becomes the highest BC born player to be chosen by the Wheat Kings. Former captain Ryan Craig of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning was a second round selection (34th overall) in 1997.

Thanks to a 2006 trade involving defenceman Mike Cann and the Lethbridge Huricanes, the Wheat Kings will have the 31st overall pick – in round two.
