The Kitchener Rangers have been awarded the right to host the 2008 Memorial Cup. Just letting everyone know.

Too bad Oshawa didn't get it. Who all submitted bids?

Kitchener, Oshawa, Sarnia, and also Saginaw, London, Kingston.

Kingston missed the shortlist. London was pretty much guaranteed out because of hosting in 2005. Saginaw will be bad next year after going for it this year, but were bidding to gain experience for the 2011 bid process. It was pretty much a three horse race.

Quite the opposite; putting in a bid costs in excess of fifty grand and they won't be getting that money back.

No one seriously thought they'd get it again, but why not go for it? They've got a nice arena, a competitive team, and it shows the fans they're committed to winning and to bidding on big events.

That said, I am very glad we didn't get it again.
