Saskatoon, SK: The Saskatoon Blades this afternoon announced that they have rounded out their hockey operations staff by naming Dave Struch as the club’s fulltime assistant coach. In addition the hockey club also announced that Doug Molleken has been named the team’s Director of Player Personnel.


Struch, who was an assistant coach with the team last year in addition to being the team’s alumni coordinator. Last season was Struch’s first as a member of the Blades coaching staff following 14 seasons of professional hockey in the United States and Europe, Struch is also a former draft pick of the Calgary Flames. Head Coach and General Manager Lorne Molleken commented on the appointment of Struch “ David has done a good job of balancing our alumni relations and his coaching duties and has earned this opportunity to expand his role within our hockey operations.”

In the appointment of Doug Molleken to Director of Player Personnel, the Blades hire an individual who has scouted and been involved with the Western Hockey League for numerous years with various teams including Prince George, Vancouver and Regina to mention a few. in addition Doug had been an area scout with the Blades for the past 3 seasons. Molleken will begin his new role with the hockey club immediately and will continue to be based out of Regina. Blades Head Coach and General Manager Lorne Molleken commented on today’s addition “We are very pleased to promote Doug to the position of Director of Player Personnel. He has a real good eye for talent and for the type of player that the Saskatoon Blades are looking for. His commitment to his position has afforded him this opportunity and we look forward to Doug assisting us in realizing our goals on the ice.”

In other Blades news, the Blades Alumni remind the public that donations for the group’s annual Ball Drop in support of the Children’s Health and Hospital Foundation will be accepted beginning Friday May 18th at all Mac’s Convenience Store and TD Canada Trust Locations in Saskatoon. as a surprise. Wonder if they've hired some new scouts. Their scouting list is pretty short. Just my own opinion but there should be at least three in every province.
