The guidlines for today's expansion draft.

Edmonton receives the list of protected and unprotected players for each of the 19 teams at 9 AM MDT. They have six hours to make their selections and must submit their list by 3 PM MDT.

Regina and Kamloops are exempt from losing a player in the draft because of pre-draft deals made with Edmonton.

Each of the 19 teams will lose one player.

Each team can protect 16 players total if three of them are overagers (born 1987). Otherwise, a team can only protect 15 players.

Players born in 1991 and later are exempt and do not have to be protected.

The WHL will make the list of players taken by Edmonton available to the public sometime after 3 PM MDT. The protected lists will not be made available.

Edmonton will be allowed to carry five overagers for the 2007-2008 season.

And according to local news @ 5:00pm, the Oil Kings have selected Dman Lance Redden from the Cougars.

Just heard that the Oil Kings selected Kerry Pieper from the Rebels !

Wow! That is a surprise pick! He is a much better fit on a team that can afford to dress an overage player with no offensive upside. Rebels are going to have to play with their heads up now. :D
