COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eight players from the bronze medal-winning 2007 U.S. National Junior Team are among the group of 45 players invited to the 2007 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 3-11. Participating players are candidates for the 2008 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2007-Jan. 5, 2008, in Pardubice and Liberec, Czech Republic.


The camp will feature practices and eight international scrimmages with a split squad of the best American players under the age of 20 facing off against Sweden and Finland.


Returnees from the 2007 U.S. National Junior Team invited to the camp include forwardsMike Carman (Apple Valley, Minn.),Blake Geoffrion (Brentwood, Tenn.),Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.),Peter Mueller (Bloomington, Minn.),Kyle Okposo (St. Paul, Minn.),Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) andJames vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.); and defensemanJamie McBain (Faribault, Minn.).


Also highlighting the list of invitees are twelve players from the silver medal-winning 2007 U.S. National Under-18 Team, including forwardsMatt Rust (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.),Jordan Schroeder (Lakeville, Minn.), vanRiemsdyk,Patrick White (Grand Rapids, Minn.) andColin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn.); defensemenIan Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich.),Cade Fairchild (Duluth, Minn.),Ryan McDonagh (Arden Hills, Minn.),Teddy Ruth (Naperville, Ill.) andKevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.); and goaltendersThomas McCollum (Sanborn, N.Y.) andJosh Unice (Toledo, Ohio).


Other National Team Development Program alumni invited to the camp include forwardsRyan Flynn (Lino Lakes, Minn.),Luke Popko (Skillman, N.J.) andRhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.); defensemenKevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.), Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.),Mike Ratchuk (Buffalo, N.Y.),Brian Strait (Waltham, Mass.) andChris Summers (Milan, Mich.); and goaltenderJoe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.).


In addition, a total of 15 players invited to the camp have played Junior hockey in the United States.


The camp opens on Aug. 3, with the first games set for Aug. 7. All practice sessions are open to the public and tickets to the international games are available through the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid.


NOTES:John Hynes (Dexter, Mich.) will serve as head coach of the 2008 U.S. National Junior Team. Hynes will be assisted byKeith Allain (North Branford, Conn.), head coach of ECAC Hockey’s Yale University and an assistant coach of both the 2006 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team and the 2006 U.S. Men’s National Team. Allain is a USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach … Joining the coaching staff for the 2007 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp are former Yale University head coachTim Taylor(Guilford, Conn.), University of Notre Dame head coachJeff Jackson (South Bend, Ind.) and Saint John’s University (Minn.) head coachJohn Harrington(St. Cloud, Minn.). All three are USA Hockey Level 5 certified coaches.
