The Prince George Cougars selected a monster blueliner from Sweden with their first pick in the CHL import draft today.

Patrik Magnusson, born in 1988, is a six-foot, seven-inch, 240-pound defenceman from Jonkoping. He played 41 games last season with the HV 71s junior team in the Swedish Superelit League. He scored seven goals and added 12 assists, racked up 91 penalty minutes and had a plus-30 rating. He also had one goal and one assist in four playoff games.

Large is a good thing.....if he can skate and adjust to the Canadian way of the Game.

From his PIM it looks like he could be a physical player, or he's slow and takes a lot of dumb hooking/tripping/holding calls. Time will tell if they made a good pick, as always.

I read a scouting report on him and it said "Doesn't play nearly physical enough for his size" "Lacks basic hockey knowledge" "Skating leaves something to be desired"
