Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings' Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Western Hockey League club, has announced plans to host a Special Barbecue next month, in an effort to raise money for the hockey club's Athletic Trainer Rob Stouffer.

The Bud, Spud and Steak Barbecue will be held from 5 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14th in the Great Western Road House Bar and Grill at Canad Inns Brandon.

Tickets are $15 each, with profits from the evening to be donated to the popular Wheat King trainer to help cover expenses as he recovers from cancer treatment.

Stouffer was diagnosed with liver cancer this past February and is currently undergoing treatment in Winnipeg.

Since joining the Wheat Kings in 2000, Stouffer has emerged as one of the most respected trainers in Canadian major junior hockey.

Tickets are available at the Wheat Kings' office, by calling 726-3535 or from any of the Alumni Executive. The Executive includes Jeff Lawson, Wayne Wilhelm, Mark Kolesar, Ken Schneider and Wheat Kings' general manager and head coach Kelly McCrimmon

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings' Alumni Association has announced that close to $10,000 was raised during the Rob Stouffer Bud, Spud and Steak Barbecue held at Canad Inns Brandon earlier this month.

The Wheat Kings' athletic therapist has learned that a total of $9,535 was collected during the barbecue through ticket sales, donations and a draw.

The money will go to help cover medical expenses for the Stouffer family while receives cancer treatments in Winnipeg.

The fundrasier was one of the official functions of the newly created Wheat Kings' alumni association, which stepped up in a big way to help one of its own.

Since joining the Wheat Kings in 2000, Stouffer has emerged as one of the most respected trainers in the Western Hockey League. In early August, the WHL club announced the appointment of John Fayed as its trainer for the coming season.

In on ice news, scrimmages begin Wednesday as the hockey club opens up its 2007 Training Camp at Westman Place. Games will be played at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The hockey club's official web site - www.wheatkings.com - will provide daily camp reports throughout the week. Camp comes to a close on Sunday with the annual Canad Inns Intrasquad game at Westman Place.
