Bruce Hamilton has his man.

After a six week search, Hamilton didn't have to look far to find his new head coach.

Assistant Ryan Huska has been promoted to the top job, replacing Jeff Truitt who resigned June 12 to accept an assistant coaching job with the Edmonton Oilers AHL affiliate in Springfield.

Huska has been an assistant coach with the Rockets for the past five years. He was hired at the start of the 2002-2003 season.

Hamilton said throughout the search process he wanted to see who was interested, but at the same time said he had confidence in those within the organization.

"We know we already have quality coaches and good people here in whom I have the utmost confidence. It will be interesting to see if any other serious candidates emerge in the next while," Hamilton said on the day Truitt resigned.

Huska has captured four Memorial Cup championships, three as a player in Kamloops and one as a coach with the Rockets. Nobody has won more.

Huska takes over a Rockets team that missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The team dead-last in the BC Division last season, finishing with a record of 22-41-5-4.
