For the third time in the past four years, the Brandon Wheat Kings have captured the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division pennant.

They did so Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current. 17-year old Winnipegger Codey Burki scored two goals to pace the winners while Lance Monych, Tim Konsorada and Riley Day added singles for Brandon, who improved their record to 42-20-5-1 on the season, good for 90 points.

The victory, which came one day after Brandon's club record 15-game win streak had come to an end in Medicine Hat, also kept the Wheat Kings atop the Eastern Conference. Entering Friday night's game against the visiting Prince Albert Raiders at the Keystone Centre, Brandon is three points ahead of Lethbridge and four up on the third place Tigers. Medicine Hat, however, does have two games in hand.

Winners of nineteen of their last 20 games, the Wheat Kings have now won nine Eastern Division titles since joining the WHL in 1967.

Brandon will either play Moose Jaw or Regina in the opening round of this year's playoffs. The fourth place Warriors currently lead the Pats by five points with four games remaining. Game one of Brandon's opening round playoff series will be Friday, March 25th at the Keystone Centre with game two scheduled for Sunday, March 27th at Winnipeg's MTS Centre.
