Hawks Trade Frazee to Medicine Hat for Swystun and Draft Spot

Friday, August 17, 2007

The Portland Winter Hawks swapped centers with the Medicine Hat Tigers, today, sending 17-year old Thomas Frazee in exchange for 19-year old Tyler Swystun and a fourth round pick in the 2008 Bantam Draft.

A rookie last season, Swystun tallied 12 goals 24 assists for 36 points for the Western Hockey League Champion Tigers. Swystun spent the 2005-06 season playing NCAA hockey for the University of Michigan Wolverines.

A move to Portland will most likely give Swystun the opportunity to see more meaningful ice time and added scoring opportunities as his 36 points would have made him the fourth leading scorer for Portland in 2006-07.

"We are looking forward to Tyler adding his speed, skill and maturity to our line-up this season," Said Hawks General Manager, Ken Hodge.

Hodge said the fourth round pick also fills a need for the team.

"We traded away our 4th round pick in 2008 in a previous trade," Hodge said. "This fills that hole. This pick could also be used to help bring in an additional 20-year old in a future deal."

The Winter Hawks currently have two 20-year old overage players. They are allowed three per season.

Frazee heads to Medicine Hat after scoring 6 goals and 6 assists as a 16-year old rookie last season.
