White Prevails In A Lengthy Shootout
Malkinson's 14th round tally ends the Green-White game
Everett Silvertips Press Release

Everett, WA -
Despite erasing a late two-goal deficit and Tanner Hamilton's twelve stops in the shootout, the Green Team was unable to pull out a victory at the Everett Events Center Sunday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the White Team. Leeland Malkinson's goal in the fourteenth round of the shootout proved to be the game winner, sending the 1,200 plus fans who packed the lower bowl satisfied after an exciting week of a highly competitive rookie camp.

Malkinson was joined by teammate Tyler Parker and Green forward Carter Shinkaruk as the only players in the game who were able to record a goal in the shootout out of 28 total shooters. Brett Gagnon allowed just one goal out of fourteen total shots for the victory, while Green goalie Tanner Hamilton allowed two goals against fourteen total shooters.

The game was not without its share of controversy, as Shinkaruk's goal in the shootout was originally waved off after he hit the crossbar before the puck bounced off Gagnon's back and into the net. After a brief conversation between the referees and linesmen, the goal was counted as the shootout would last eleven more rounds.

The shootout was necessitated after Green erased a 3-1 deficit with two late third period goals from forward Devan McLean, the second of which came with just under six minutes remaining in the contest. Paul Grenier recorded the other Green tally.

White scored the lone first period goal as Byron Froese banged in a one-timer from teammate Tyler Parker. A shorthanded goal from Carter Page at the 10:03 mark in the second period made it a 2-0 lead for White before Grenier's goal brought Green within one. With three seconds left in the second period, Markus McCrea blasted a slapshot from just in front of the left point that deflected off Hamilton's glove and trickled into the goal to give White the 3-1 lead.

Continuing a trend that had been evident throughout camp, the goaltending was again solid as Kent Simpson blocked nine out of ten shots for Green, while White starter J.P. Chapman blocked all fifteen shots he faced prior to Hamilton and Gagnon's entries into the game midway through the second period.

The Everett Silvertips' Main Camp begins Sunday evening as the team checks in and begins their off-ice testing. On-ice practices begin Monday afternoon, with daily 5:00 pm scrimmages open to the public, free of charge.
