Paul Postma was the highlight of the night, as he tallied THREE goals, and added a goal in the shootout in the Broncos' Intersquad game. Despite the effort, his team (Team White) fell 7-6 to Team Black. Broncos' first rounder, Christian Magnus lead Team Black with two goals. In the end, Team Black prevailed, as Grant Toulmin potted the shootout winner.

The game was not intense enough, IMO. Because there was an abundance of injuries, the teams played four on four. I think that's what caused the lack of action in a game that got downright boring at times.

At the same time, you can't lose interest. For me, it's impossible not to be at the rink when there is game action. The Broncos have a great group this year, and should be very competetive. It shows every night in camp, when you see guys like Taylor Vause and Scott Macauley.....who was himself again tonight...just motoring the wheels out there. Vause has shown signs of brilliance all along. But the night definitely belonged to 18-yr-old defenseman Paul Postma, as he notched the hat trick. He has improved his play dramatically, an should be a pillar on the blue line this season. Overall, it's awesome to watch hockey again...especially a hugely improved and exciting hockey club.

I can't wait to go to Edmonton this weekend!

LET'S GO SWIFTY!!!

Black and White Game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a few thoughts on what I liked about the game.
I thought all four goaltenders were good, even though I'm sure that it will be Yonkman and Curtis, Ketting and Rumpel were both very decent.
Scott Macaulay was very good, I hope Dean can make room for this youngster, I think he would be quite good quarterbacking the pp, he seems very calm with the puck, and is a very nice skater.
Kris Foucault is another that I was very impressed with and hope to see in a Bronco uniform come opening night, he looks to be an all around player with some nice hands, and isn't afraid to shoot the puck.
A couple other 15 and 16 year olds that looked good to me for the future are Vause, Hay and Magnus.
I thought Tassone, Wudrick and Gervais all looked very good tonight along with most of the other returning players. But there were a couple that I thought will really have to step it up if they don't want to lose their spot on the team.
There were some vets not playing tonight and some injuries to others, so we didn't get to see everybody, but overall it looked alright. I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm in the game as it did lack excitement at times. And I wasn't a huge fan of the four on four, but I can understand why the coaches would want it this way.

Black Beats White 7-6 in Shootout
I only caught the third period of the Black/White game so I don't have a full recap.

The game was played 4-on-4 because of a lack of bodies so it was wide open to say the least. The third period (and I'm told all game) was filled with odd man rushes and breakaways. Highly entertaining for the fans who filled up the Fairview Arena.

Team Black trailed 5-2 headed into the 3rd and rallied back led by Paul Postma. The 18 year-old d-man picked up the hat-trick and also added an assist.

Ryan Molle's muffin from the blueline with 40 seconds to play found it's way by Chad Ketting (who still played well) and tied the game 6-6.

Zack Smith rang the post for Team Black on a shot from the slot in the dying seconds... no dice. It was off to the shootout.

Tied 1-1 after three shooters, Grant Toulmin scored a nice goal on a back-end deke for Black. Kyle Bortis missed on his opportunity for White and that was it. 7-6 Team Black your final.

A few minor dust-ups in the 3rd. Ryan Molle caught Dale Wiese with a high and hard hit inside his own zone. Safe to say Wiese wasn't a fan. There was more vets on vets violence, Matt Tassone (who's played with an edge and short fuse all camp) wasn't too happy with his treatment in front of the net and went after Eric Doyle. The linesman would intervene and that was that. Chalk it up to two teams competing a bit harder in the third period.

Here's something else to ponder. That was the last time the Broncos will be on home ice for the next six weeks due to Civic Center renovations. The next 14 games both exhibition and regular season will be on the road.

I had a chat with Myles Rumsey has he continues to rehab his knee. He will attend the University of Manitoba and will eventually play with the Bisons. He admits life after junior hockey is different. For the last six years he's been at Broncos camp at this time of year.

I'll post a the text of the interview later on Wednesday.

Yeah that was a decent game. Just not enough intensity. We are looking for player for a hockey team not a RINGETTE team. But I will say this that was a great hit by Molle on Weise. It was a beauty. Weise was pissed off. And yet again did nothing about it. Weise is a great player, has showed in camp but if you are that mad dont just flap you gums, Man up and hit back or call him out. The future looks bright with the younger guys we have.
