The Spokane Chiefs won their second straight pre-season contest with a 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Saturday in Everett. Spokane outshot the Americans 41-22 including 16-6 in the first period.
Rookie 18-year-old Dustin Donaghy scored two goals and fellow first year forward Tyler Johnson had a goal and two assists in the win. Donaghy began the scoring at 15:20 of the first to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead after one.
After Tri-City scored at 1:27 of the second to even it up, the Chiefs scored four unanswered, including three times in the second. Third-year veteran defenseman Justin Falk scored at 9:49, with 15-year-old Mike Betz assisting, and Donaghy tallied less than a minute later at 10:41. Johnson’s goal came at 18:24 from Jace Coyle and Ondrej Roman.
Mitch Wahl, the Chiefs Rookie of the Year last season, finished the scoring at 1:21 of the third with an unassisted goal.
Seventeen-year-old rookie goaltender James Reid stopped 22 shots as the Chiefs were perfect on three penalty kills. Spokane was 0-4 on the powerplay.
The Chiefs will finish the weekend against the Seattle Thunderbirds (http://www.network54.com/Forum/40684/message/1188682691/5-1+Chiefs.......................article+from+the+Ch iefs+site......#) at 3:00 on Sunday.
Spokane will play one home pre-season game, Friday, September 14th against Tri-City at Eagles. Tickets are on sale for only $6 and are available at the Chiefs office or at Eagles.
The home portion of the regular season will begin on Saturday, October 6th versus Tri-City.
