The season of firsts continues for the Edmonton Oil Kings. Their first ever road trip turned into their first ever road win thanks to a 5 - 2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen in an exhibition game played in Okotoks, Alberta. It's the first time an Oil King goalie has started and finished the same game and it's a good thing veteran goalie Alex Archibald was up to the task. He was pretty busy in the opening frame turning aside all 13 of the Hitmen's shots. Edmonton only managed 6 shots but Brenden Dowd was still able to score on the power play from Tyler Hlookoff to give the Oil Kings a 1 nothing lead after one.

The flood gates opened in the second frame with Clayton Cumiskey, J-P Szaszkiewicz and Craig McCallum all picking up singles. For McCallum, that's his team leading 5th goal in just 4 pre-season games. Brandon Lockerby, Michael Hengen playing his first game of the year, and Dowd all picked up assists in the period as Edmonton built up a 4 - 0 lead after 40 minutes. Dowd is now the Oil Kings scoring leader with 6 points in 4 games. As usual, it wouldn't be a pre-season tilt without some fist-a-cuffs. Oil Kings big guy Karl Benke won his fight against the Hitmen's Graham Telford.

The Hitmen showed some signs of life in the third period with goals from Michael Stone and Brett Plouffe. However, Brett Breitkreuz added some insurance with an unassited goal for the Oil Kings as Edmonton improves it's record in the pre-season to 3 - 1. The final shots on goal ended up 33 - 32 in favour of Calgary.

The Oil Kings have a couple of days off before their next exhibition game on Tuesday night versus the Red Deer Rebels at the Black Gold Arena in Leduc

Great Result for the Kings. We aren't going to be a pushover in 07-08, that brings our preseason record to 3-1. applause

I can't wait for the season to start.
