Blades vs. Moose Jaw tonight
Posted by Les Lazaruk on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 04:23:00 AM.

One of tonight's two teams will finally get to celebrate a pre-season win when the Saskatoon Blades host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Credit Union Centre. The Blades lost their first two exhibition outings over the weekend while the Warriors are 0-3 so far.

The Bridge City Bunch intends on using more of their veterans in the 7:05 first face-off. That means the first action in Blue and White for 20-year-olds Chris Durand and Michael Kaye at forward along with recently-acquired Curtis Patterson on defence. Also seeing their first pre-season action will be the Blades' two Import Draft selections from this past June in 17-year-old Finnish blue-liner Jyri Niemi and 19-year-old Slovak right winger Robert Brandis. Plus, G.M. and head coach Lorne Molleken wants to get another look at 16-year-olds Stefan Elliott and Curtis Hamilton tonight. Both played in the first two games. Braden Holtby will see his first action in goal tonight against Moose Jaw. Garrett Zemlak is expected to play Thursday night in Prince Albert. The Blades will also take on the Raiders Friday in a neutral-site exhibition contest in Lloydminster.

The re-assignment of goaltenders Adam Morrison and Matthew Krahn, defencemen Tanner Sohn and Cameron Canart plus forward Charles Inglis leaves the Blades with 29 players on their roster (2 goaltenders, 10 defencemen, 17 forwards). Defenceman Ryan Funk is hampered by a shoulder injury, forward Kirk Belyk is hobbled by a bruised foot while forwards Garrett Klotz (Philadelphia Flyers) and Colton Gillies (Minnesota Wild) are at N.H.L. training camps with Justin McCrae set to leave for Carolina Hurricanes' camp tomorrow (Wednesday).

Tonight's game can be heard on HOT-93 FM, starting with "The Kia of Saskatoon Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show" at 6:30 and the play-by-play at 7 p.m. Also, "The Tourism Saskatoon Locker Talk Post-Game Show" will originate from the main concourse level in the Northwest Corner tonight.
