The Saskatoon Blades reduced their roster by one Monday, sending 17-year-old centre Doug McLeod of Thompson, Man., to another Blade team, the Beausejour Blades of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

McLeod played AAA midget hockey last season, but found himself in a numbers game in Saskatoon where the team still has 17 forwards. The Blades still have 29 players on their roster, but head coach Lorne Molleken said he'd like to get that number down to 24 or 25 when the team begins the 2007-08 season Friday in Brandon.

Saskatoon also has 10 defencemen and two goaltenders. The Blades home season opener is Saturday, against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
