Blades Get Single Point in Kootenay

The Saskatoon Blades earned a single point on Sunday night to close out their 3rd game in 3 nights weekend that saw them make stops in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and Kootenay.

The Blades earned a single point after falling to the Ice 4-3 in overtime. Kootenay Captain Steve DaSilva scored with 4:07 left in the 3rd period to tie the game at 3-3 before Steele Boomer won the game for the Ice in the extra frame.

Two of the Blades three goals came courtesy of Finnish rookie defenseman Jyri Niemi. His strong game has him sitting in a tie for the Western Hockey League lead amongst defenseman with 3 goals. Niemi is also sitting 6th in defensive scoring and has been a welcomed addition to the Blades blue liners in 2007/08.

The Blades will have the week off before playing their next game when they host the Regina Pats on October 8th (Thanksgiving Day). Fans are reminded that the holiday game is scheduled for a 2:05pm puck drop.
