New trio clicks for big night

Sometimes a little tinkering goes a long way.

Looks like Calgary Hitmen head coach Kelly Kisio has put together a dynamite line combination with Carson McMillan, Brett Sonne and recently acquired Kyle Bortis.

The trio combined for six points in the Hitmen's 5-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers last night at the Saddledome in front of 7,164 fans.

McMillan scored a shorthanded goal and added two assists, Sonne had two helpers and Bortis tallied once.

"We get along great and they're both great players offensively and defensively," said McMillan, who did a superb job penalty killing with Sonne and led all players with six shots on goal.

"Both handle the puck really well and we're getting to know where each other is on the ice."

Sonne, who now has points in six straight games, said it's pretty easy playing with his linemates.

"Me and Mac have known each other since we've been in Calgary and Bortis is a good guy," said Sonne of Bortis, who got dealt from Swift Current last week.

"We got to meet him on the road trip, so we spent a lot of time on the bus."

The last time the Hitmen (7-1) met the Tigers (3-2-1) was in last year's Eastern Conference final, when Medicine Hat eliminated Calgary, something Sonne hasn't forgotten.

"Being in the league for a few years, you remember games like that and it puts a bit more fuel to your fire," he said.

Karl Alzner buried his first goal of the year at 3:27 of the opening frame.

Calgary went up 2-0 on defenceman Paul Postma's tally three minutes later.

The Hitmen went up 4-0 on a goal from Brandon Kozun.

Medicine Hat got a shorthanded tally from Jerrid Sauer.
