Friday's highlights . . .
The Lethbridge Herald reports that Hurricanes head coach Michael Dyck has juggled his lines for home games Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings and Sunday against the Prince Albert Raiders. Dyck has flipped centres, moving Mitch Fadden between Yashar Farmanara and Adam Chorneyko, with Carter Bancks playing between Zach Boychuk and Dwight King. Dyck is hoping that Fadden and Farmanara, who played together with Seattle before being dealt to Lethbridge, can find some magic. . . . Lethbridge has assigned RW Drew Todd, 18, to the AJHL’s Olds Grizzlies. . . .

Swedish LW Robin Figren, whom Edmonton claimed from the Calgary Hitmen in the expansion draft, made his Oil Kings debut with a goal and an assist in a 5-4 victory over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders. He had been out recovering from offseason surgery for a sports hernia. . . . Edmonton also got a goal from D Adrian Van de Mosselaer, who was acquired during the week from the Medicine Hat Tigers for a sixth-round pick in the 2008 bantam draft. Van de Mosselaer, who is from Kelowna, scored in his first WHL game and was named the game’s first star. . . .
Last season they were the expansion Chilliwack Bruins. Today, they are the first-place Chilliwack Bruins; well, they’ve got a share of first place. C Mark Santorelli’s goal at 1:50 of OT gave the Bruins a 5-4 victory over the host Vancouver Giants. That left the Bruins with a 5-1-0-0 record and lifted them into a tie atop the B.C. Divison with the Giants (4-0-1-1). . . . LW Colby Kulhanek, one of the WHL’s top stories in the early going, had his fifth goal for the Bruins and set up two others. He scored twice all of last season. . . . Chilliwack also got two goals from RW Brandon Campos, 20, who was claimed off waivers from the Everett Silvertips earlier in the week. . . . Still, Vancouver outshot the Bruins 34-15, including 14-1 in the third period, with G Matt Esposito getting his fifth victory of the season. G Tyson Sexsmith took the loss. . . . The game was delayed for about 10 minutes in the first period when a fire caused by a faulty light bulb broke out in Pacific Coliseum’s rafters. . . . Chilliwack has assigned D Scott Maetche, 18, to a junior A team yet to be named. . . . Vancouver D Neil Manning left the game with an undisclosed injury. . . .
In Everett, Kurtis Mucha kicked out 31 shots as the Portland Winter Hawks won for the first time in five games, 3-0 over the Silvertips. . . . Portland went into the game having scored three goals in its first four games, in which it was 0-4 and had been shutout twice. . . . Mucha’s effort included stopping C Zach Hamill on a late-game penalty shot. . . . Everett is 1-4-0-0. . . . The teams meet again Saturday in Portland. . . . Everett, which has 11 of its 16 goals with the man advantage, was 0-for-9 on the PP. . . . Portland C Colton Sceviour didn’t return after being checked into an opening penalty box door in the second period. . . .
In Kelowna, C Jim O’Brien, a first-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in the NHL’s 2007 draft, drew two assists and was the game’s second star as his Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Rockets, 4-1. . . . The teams meet Saturday in Seattle. . . . “I felt good, coming in here,” O’Brien told Doyle Potenteau of the Kelowna Daily Courier. “It was a full house and I had a couple of practices with the guys. I just went out there and had a blast. Yeah, I had the butterflies a bit, but I worked them out.” O’Brien joined the Thunderbirds on Monday. . . .
In Regina, one of the WHL’s best rivalries resumed with the Pats beating the Moose Jaw Warriors, 4-2. Regina C Jordan Eberle, who had missed two games with tonsillitis, scored three times. Eberle, 17, has seven points, including five goals, in four games. . . . Regina D Matt Delahey drilled Moose Jaw LW Terrance Delaronde with an open-ice hit in the first period. Delaronde was later ejected for charging Delahey with the teams then engaging in some spirited fisticuffs. Delahey’s No. 7 jersey was bloodied but he came back wearing No. 20. . . .
After going 5-1-0-0 in opening with six road games, the Tri-City Americans won their home-opener, 4-3 in OT, over the Spokane Chiefs. D T.J. Fast got the winner, 51 seconds into extra time. . . . The teams meet in Spokane on Saturday night. . . . Tri-City C Kruise Reddick, who leads the WHL with 15 points, scored his sixth goal. . . . Tri-City C Tyler Procyshen, who is one of the WHL’s most under-rated players, also got his sixth goal. . . . Spokane was without LW Dustin Donaghy. He broke his right hand in a fight with Everett C Lukas Vartovnik on Wednesday and could be gone for up to six weeks. . . . Tri-City had D Jarrett Toll in the lineup for the first time this season. He had been out with a broken ankle suffered while playing lacrosse.
