Cranbrook, B.C. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to three games, improving their record to 5-1-0 in the process by sweeping a 2-game Western Hockey League Thanksgiving weekend road trip.

Andrew Clark and Tyler Dittmer scored two goals each Sunday afternoon as the defending Eastern Division champions edged the Kootenay Ice 4-3. Sunday's victory came 24 hours after Brandon scored a 5-2 win over the hometown Hurricanes in Lethbridge. Dittmer's first ever WHL hat trick was the difference as the 20-year old center broke open a 2-2 tie with three third period goals.

Veteran netminder Joe Caligiuri registered both victories between the pipes, turning aside 64-69 shots including 36 in Saturday's win over the 'Canes.

In Sunday's win, Clark's second goal of the game - at the 8:15 mark of the third period - was the game winner.

The line of Clark, Dittmer and Matt Lowry combined for a total of twelve points against the Ice. While Dittmer and Clark had two goals and two assists each, Lowry had a career high four assists. Through the first six games of the 2007-08 regular season, Dittmer (5-5-10) and Clark (3-7-10) share the team scoring lead while Lowry (4-5-9) is next.

The Wheat Kings return to Brandon on Monday and will begin preparations on Tuesday for the team's upcoming 5-game homestand that begins this weekend with games against the Prince George Cougars and Kootenay Ice on Friday and Saturday nights respectively.

With the box office closed on Monday for Thanksgiving, tickets to both weekend games will go back on sale first thing Tuesday morning. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca In addition to saluting western Manitoba's School Patrols this weekend, Saturday night's game is another Brandon Source for Sports / Subway Family Night. The Wheat Kings' Family Pack includes 2 adult and 2 youth tickets, 4 6“ subs from Subway, four Coca Colas and 4 Wheat Kings' programs for just $40. See store for details.

All the so called "experts" seem relatively surprised at the WHEATKINGS great start. Evidently, it's not a fluke. I can't remember the last time Brandon has had a sub par year or team for that matter. Congratulations on a good start and keep it up (except when PG comes calling later this week)! :thumb:
