So over the past 4 games, the pats have been outscored 11-2. I am wondering what it is going to take for the guys to play 60 minutes. It is no secret this team has what it takes. I hope these signs are simply games to learn from and will end up helping the team later in the year.

Take nothing for granted and get back on track Friday!

Lets hope hunt gives them a rude awakening, and perhaps they might decide to put forth more effort in the last period of the game.

Im not blaming kids like Eberle, and perhaps that whole line(even Kraus) for the breakdown. They seem to be working hard out there. Are there any single pats that mgiht have been noticibly "doggin' it" in the 3rd.

Im going to say Pyett might be an example of that. He has been awfully quiet on the score sheet as of late, when he should be tearing it up. He has been invisible the last few games.

you have got to give the Blades some credit as well. From the 2nd period on they completely dominated the game, as indicated by the shots. Gillies looks like he is going to explode for his breakout season.

When you say explode, do you mean 20 g and 20 a?

blades deserved this one...Holtby played really well as did Rowat, but yes once again the boys take a coffee break in the final frame...so frustrating

i'm amazed at how Valach got a penalty for roughing when Holtby pulled a Slade glove-to-face move on him, but that was later compensated for when the blades served a penalty for N.Ross's high stick on Kraus....(pathetically we could do nothing with the 5 on 3)....ah yes, love the dub officials

the trip to toon town was worth it for the 1st and 2nd period..the 3rd...not so much :burningma

Yes, I would definitely take nothing away from the Blades, they faught hard with their new additions and Gillies back from camp now, but the 3rd period seems to be a trend right now.

I had the live feed today, so some things aren't the most clear so I couldn't say if any one guy was to blame. I noticed Hill showing some frustration, but nobody else.

Oh well, crumple this game up and move on. Lots of season to get it together.

Pats miss out on a perfect weekend

The Leader-Post
Published: Tuesday, October 09, 2007

Regina Pats head coach Curtis Hunt managed a chuckle when asked about Monday's 7-3 WHL loss to the host Saskatoon Blades.

"I'd rather talk about Edmonton,'' said Hunt, referring to Sunday's 6-2 road victory over the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings.

With that in mind, Hunt was asked to discuss the weekend as a whole -- including Friday's 4-2 home-ice victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

"That's better,'' Hunt said. "I can do that.

"We were two out of three on the weekend, which is a positive. The unfortunate thing -- whether we ran out of gas or we just ran out of smarts -- is that we had a bad collapse in Saskatoon. It just sours your weekend.''

Regina led 3-2 after two periods on Monday before Saskatoon responded with five unanswered goals.

"The reality of our business is you're only as good as your last one so that's what we have going into this week,'' Hunt said. "We are mindful that we had a big win in Edmonton -- a solid, 60-minute game -- and obviously the home win against Moose Jaw, which was positive as well.

"But there was an absolute collapse in the third period in Saskatoon. It's one of those things where you see it coming and it's like trying to hold water in your hands.''

Were the rigours of the weekend a factor in the Pats' unravelling?

"The truth of our league is it's a weekend league and it's a travel league,'' Hunt said. "We can blame scheduling. You can say, 'Yeah, they hadn't played for a week and we basically travelled 13 hours over two days to get there,' if that gives you solace or if that gives you peace of mind.

"In my mind, you've got a lead in the third period. As a matter of fact, we led throughout the game. At different times, we made decisions of high-risk when we didn't have to, and we made decisions -- or no decisions.

"We didn't pick up people. We didn't trust others to do their jobs so we had duplication, and you give them an opportunity to come back -- and not only come back, but really snap it off once they stuck it in.''

Colton Gillies led the Blades with three goals and two assists. Saskatoon was outshot 14-6 in the first period, but outshot the Pats 33-21 over the final 40 minutes.

"You've got to give Saskatoon credit,'' Hunt said. "They didn't stop working. It's not that we didn't work. I just didn't think we were particularly smart and supportive and we got away from the simple team concepts.''

Jordan Eberle, Tim Kraus and Jared Jagow scored for the Pats on Monday, when their three-game winning streak was halted.

On Sunday, Brett Leffler led the Pats with two goals. Kraus (who scored 23 seconds into the game), Eberle, Josh Elder and Nick Ross (with an empty-netter) completed the scoring as Regina outshot the Oil Kings 40-23.

The Pats have now turned their attention to preparing for another hectic weekend.

The Pats have home games Friday (against the Kootenay Ice) and Saturday (Prince Albert Raiders) before visiting Moose Jaw on Sunday.

Regina has a 5-3-0-0 record and 10 points -- one behind the first-place Swift Current Broncos (5-2-0-1) in the East Division. The Brandon Wheat Kings (5-1-0-0) have 10 points, like Regina, but have played two fewer games than the Pats.

EXTRAS: The Oil Kings rebounded Sunday by defeating the visiting Broncos 3-2 in a shootout on Monday. Regina product Brent Raedeke had a goal for Edmonton. Erik Felde and Dale Weise scored for Swift Current ... On Saturday, the Warriors lost 4-1 to the host Medicine Hat Tigers. Joel Broda scored for Moose Jaw (0-3-2-0).
