The Vancouver Giants have announced 20 year-old forward Mike Wuchterl has been released by the hockey club. Wuchterl was acquired last season at the WHL trade deadline from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

"Mike was a hard working and enthusiastic player for our club," comments Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "We would like to thank Mike for his contributions and positive attitude towards our organization. We wish him the best of luck in his hockey future."

The 5'9, 205lbs. left winger from Edmonton, Alberta is into his final year of major junior hockey. In 220 career regular season games, Wuchterl has collected 16 goals, 24 assists, and 383 penalty minutes.

The Giants now have 24 players on their current roster (2 goalies, 7 defencemen, and 15 forwards). Vancouver will return to the Pacific Coliseum Friday October 12 to host the Calgary Hitmen. Game time is 7:30pm PST.

It is unfortunate that Mike is now on the outside looking in. He was a player that played with heart, soul and body. We certainly hope something comes up for him in the WHL but then again at least he has got some years to put towards other careers with the education funding in the background . All the best and thanks for the excitement you brought to us fans here in Lethbridge while you were here.

wow kind of surprised they couldn't even get a draft pick for him. I like Wookie, but he never filled the role that an overage player must and we've got duplicates throughout the line-up.

Its a shame we couldn't deal for an OA D for him, or a scoring winger, but that's the value of 20 yr olds in this league, and a twenty year old grinder so much so.

Good Luck Mike hopefully Edmonton or someone picks you up

The Gmen desperately need a veteran dman, preferably a tough mobile one.

How many OA spots do we have left? 1? 2?

Perhaps they are expecting an OA back soon?

1.
Bliznak and Hunt take up the overage spots.
Bliznak and Repik take the Euro spots.

You've got to think the Giants have a 3rd OA up their sleeve with the deadline coming on Thursday.

I just think that it was better to deal Wutcherl now or let him go as he was not contributing any more than a 16 yr old that was not dressed. This way he can catch on with another club or JrA etc. Also with the Giants record for developing players it might be a good bet we can pick up a returning AHL, ECHL player from another club for a draft pick ala Rabbit.

If there was to be an OA former Giant coming back my bet would be Mikkelsen
