Breast Cancer Awareness Night

The Saskatoon Blades, with the help of corporate sponsors TCU and C95, are raising funds for breast cancer research at their next home game this Friday, October 12th.

The hockey club is also proud to announce that if 9,500 fans attend the game, Blades Head Coach and General Manager Lorne Molleken, along with 14 Blades players, have volunteered to shave their heads at centre ice. Some of these players include:
Braden Holtby
Colton Gillies
Ryan Funk
Justin McCrae
Derek Hulak
The Blades will be donating a portion of proceeds raised through ticket sales that night to breast cancer research. Western Concessions has also stepped up to support the evening and will be donating all proceeds from pink cotton candy sales that night.
The game will feature a Desperate Housewives theme that will see major prizes for the ladies in attendance that night in addition to regular Blades promotions.

Fundraising for the shear enjoyment

SASKATOON -- They'll be like sheep heading for the shearing shack.

Shortly after after Friday's Saskatoon Blades-Red Deer Rebels WHL game at Credit Union Centre, two "stylists'' will sit head coach Lorne Molleken and over a dozen of his players down at centre ice and let rip with the clippers, in a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

That is, if 9,500 fans show up for the WHL contest.

The Blades, Teacher's Credit Union and Saskatoon radio station C95 have undertaken the joint fundraiser while Western Concessions will be selling pink cotton candy and donating all those proceeds as well.

"It's a tremendous cause ... everybody has been touched by cancer, be it a friend or a family member,'' Molleken said.

But the Blades never draw 9,500, raising the question of whether it'll even happen.

Molleken smiled and shrugged, saying: "You'll have to be there to see. As I said, it's a tremendous cause.''

And one source, behind Molleken's back, admitted plans have already been made to have the two stylists ready to go regardless of the crowd size.

Nobody should be hustling to get out of the rink, the source said.

Molleken said the last time he was left without his golden locks was "way back when my dad owned the pool room in Weyburn and every Sunday he'd strap us down (in the barber chair).''
