I don't really like the idea that now we have to have a win either by OT or a shootout some games both teams seem content to play for a point then chance their luck in the OT b/c a loss still nets you a point. It seems to penalize a team that wins in regular time.
For example, team a, b and c are all tied in the standings at 10 points.
Team A plays a different team and wins easily, puts them at 12 points. Team b beats team c in OT.
team a 12
team b 12
team c 11
Seems to me team a should have more than a point advantage for winning a game while team c gained a point for losing.
A radical way around this is to give a team 3 points for winning in regular time, 2 points for winning in OT and 1 point for losing in OT
team a 13
team b 12
team c 11
A less radical way is 3 points for any win and the one point for an OT loss
team a 13
team b 13
team c 11

I think we could also just keep 2 points for any win and have 0 points for an OT loss.

You see, the problem with that setup is that it makes sense, which is why the NHL will never switch to it. And if the NHL doesn't make the switch, then I can't see the dub switching their point structure either.

But I do agree that system is the way to go.
