Listened to this one on the radio so I'd like to hear some thoughts from those who actually saw the game. As usual I am working from Joey's play by play and my memory of the course of events, so specifics might suffer. Enjoy.

Giants Stone Bruins
Vancouver 4 Chilliwack 0

Another complete game, this time with some rookie defensemen in the line-up and the Giants keep rolling. The other books have been burned and the other pages shredded, the boys have only one page and they are all on it. Tyson Sexsmith turned away 18 shots for his second shutout of the young season. The anemic PP is no more as the G-Men went 3 for 7 on the man-advantage tonight. Mike Reich opened the scoring on the PP coming back from a two game suspension with a vengeance. Garet Hunt and Craig Cunningham assisted on the goal. The Giants padded that lead with a flurry of goals in the second. Late in the second Chris Cloud put the G-Men up by two and in the span of 19 seconds the Giants capitalised, 5 on 3 and then 5 on 4 on the same PP to put the game out of reach. Spencer Machacek got his own rebound and put the puck past Matt Esposito for the first tally and then Michal Repik coming out of the corner rifled one past Espo to put the Giants up 4-0, 19 seconds later. The Giants held the lead in the third as they did the previous night versus the Americans barely allowing the Bruins a sniff at the net.

Reich returning from his two game suspension and playing on the PP with Repik, Hunt, and Cunningham, scored the first goal of the game and what proved to be the game winner. Repik made a nice outlet to Hunt who fed Cunningham. Cunningham chipped the puck ahead to Reich who snapped a wrister to open the scoring. The score remained a tightly fought one goal game until 14:41 of the second when Mario Bliznak made a nice pass to Chris Cloud who made no mistake putting the puck past Espo. Just over two minutes later the Bruins found themselves into penalty trouble with hooking penalties. The Giants started out on the PP but quickly were awarded the 5 on 3 advantage as Holden was tagged for a hook. James Wright and Bliznak combined to get the puck to Machacek who fired got his own rebound and muscled the puck under Espo. While still on the PP, albeit a 5 on 4 advantage, Jonathon Blum and Brent Regner got the puck to Repik in the corner. Repik came out to the open area and fired a quick one past Espo to give the Giants a big lead, one which they would not relinquish.

The visitors got a bit of scare when Repik was elbowed to the ice by Jeff Einhorn, but Repik seemed to be okay and played some shifts after the cheap shot. There was no penalty called on the play. Bliznak padded his stats with two assists tonight, and Blum continued his scoring streak of nine games with at least a point. Regner notched two assists of his own as the top three d-men (Blum, Regner and Mike Berube) played big minutes. 19 yr old D Craig Schira was out with an upper body injury from last night’s game, so Linden Saip found himself inserted into the line-up. The team played as a solid unit holding their opponent to 18 shots and continuing to shut the door on the PK, for the third straight night. The Giants have still only allowed six PP goals against this season. Tyson Sexsmith was solid in his second goose egg of the season.

The Giants went 3 for 7 on the PP, while the Bruins went 0 for 5. The visitors from Vancouver out shot their opponents 30-18 in the shut out victory. Exciting rookie Evander Kane is day to day with a foot/leg injury after blocking a shot in the Tri-City game. The Giants will face another three game in three nights gauntlet next weekend when they start in Seattle against the rapidly climbing T-Birds and then return home to take Everett and Spokane. Not an easy set of games. Puck drops at 7:35pm on Friday Oct 19th at the Key Arena.

Three Stars

1. Brent Regner
2. Jonathon Blum
3. Mario Bliznak

Thanks for the good re-cap. I missed watching a game for the first time this year so I was eager to read a report on how the boys did...4-0 with a depleted line-up!!!
When did Schira get hurt? The d sure looked different tonight. The forwards must have really come back to help out.

Schira - heard it was check on the end boards in the Tri-City game -- upper body injury of some sort, not sure how serious it is

This was probably the best 60 minute effort by the Giants all season long. The game itself was pretty boring and not nearly as physical and rough as I expected the season series to be this year. Pretty disappointing in that regard. But it was a very good defensive effort once again. The PP was finally able to click as well.
