Sunday . . .
There would appear to be problems in Prince Albert where Raiders head coach Bruno Campese stripped letters off three players prior to a 5-2 loss to the visiting Regina Pats on Saturday. Captain Ryan DePape and three alternates — Mike Gauthier, Matt Robertson and Ryan McDonald — all lost their letters. In fact, only D Jeff May was wearing a letter — an A — against Regina. “Obviously there is some surrounding issues with discipline and whether it’s discipline (problems) on the ice or off the ice, it’s been very clear that it’s not going to be tolerated,” Campese told the Prince Albert Daily Herald. “Guys are going to have to understand really quick that we are not going to tolerate any actions that (are) to the (detriment) of the team. It’s a different kind of culture here and the players have to realize that and what they are here to do.” . . . During the game, Campese sat Dustin Cameron and McDonald for all of the second period after they took what were deemed bad penalties. . . . The Raiders (3-9-2-0) have lost six in a row and GM Donn Clark is out scouting. He watched the Kamloops Blazers play twice on the weekend. . . .

In Calgary, the Hitmen beat the Kamloops Blazers in an afternoon game. Calgary (11-3-0-1) got off to a good start when Kyle Bortis scored on a 5-on-3 advantage just 4:42 into the game. . . . Martin Stepan upped Calgary’s lead to 2-0 at 11:04 of the second period. . . . Kenton Dulle got Kamloops on the board at 12:31, but the visitors (5-6-1-0) weren’t able to equalize. . . .
In Vancouver, the Spokane Chiefs proved they are among the WHL’s elite teams with a 2-0 blanking of the Giants to run their winning streak to five games. . . . Vancouver, which had been averaging 35 shots per game, managed just 18 against the Chiefs (8-2-1-1). . . . The Chiefs won 4-3 in Kelowna on Saturday and then headed for Vancouver. They experienced bus problems en route and didn’t get into the big smoke until 8 a.m. . . . Chris Bruton and Judd Blackwater, with an empty-netter, had the goals with Kevin Armstrong posting the shutout, his first this season and the fourth of his career. . . . The Giants (9-2-1-1) watched a six-game winning streak end as, for the second straight weekend, they played three games in as many nights. . . . Vancouver D Jon Blum had his point streak end at 11 games. . . .
In Portland, Michael Proudley had three points as the Chilliwack Bruins edged the Winter Hawks, 4-3. . . . Proudley, an 18-year-old sophomore left winger from Winnipeg, had three points in 55 games last season. With his two goals and an assist from Sunday, he has nine points, four of them goals, in 13 games this season. . . . The Bruins ran their record to 9-3-1-0, while the Winter Hawks, who lost for the sixth straight game, are 1-10-0-0. . . . Portland actually led 3-2 going into the third period. Proudley tied it at 1:57 and Colby Kulhanek got the eventual winner at 3:30. Kulhanek, who had two goals and five assists in 70 games last season, has seven goals and six helpers in 13 games this season. . . .
In Cranbrook, Andrew Bailey’s fourth goal of the season, on a power play at 4:03 of overtime, gave the Kootenay Ice a 3-2 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. . . . The Ice (5-8-1-0) got a goal and two helpers from Steve Da Silva as it vacated the Central Division cellar, leaping over the idle Edmonton Oil Kings (4-5-0-2) and Red Deer (4-8-3-0). . . . The Ice was 3-for-7 on the PP, including scoring on a 5-on-3 advantage. . . . “There were some very marginal calls tonight and that was a determining factor in the game,” Rebels head coach Brian Sutter told the Red Deer Advocate. “There was a marginal call on the 5-on-3 goal and then another one that allowed (the Ice) to win.” . . . Collen Morin was off for holding when Bailey scored the winner. . . . Red Deer F Tomas Polak left in the first period with a shoulder injury, while F Clayton Bauer (pinched nerve in his neck) didn’t dress.
